Hi all,

I'm an orchestrator/composer from Whangarei, New Zealand. I'm going to be traveling down to Wellington, NZ to the New Zealand School of Music at Victoria University next year, to do a Bachelor of Music in Composition.

I'm interested in all sorts of music, and I've composed short pieces for a variety of mediums, although my specialty is in Orchestrating (not really arranging, which is a different thing). I plan to help improve the wiki pages on instrumentation, as I have plenty of experience working with orchestral musicians (both experienced and amateur), including good knowledge of all the instruments, their limitations, and their playing techniques.

As a musician, I play first chair Viola in a youth orchestra, second chair Viola in the regional community orchestra, first chair Cello in a youth string orchestra, Bass Trombone with the district brass band as well as a youth Concert Band, and principal Piccolo as well as musical director for a youth flute choir.

Hope to make some new friends here, and hopefully I'll be posting some works sometime soon :)

Hi everyone,

My name is Ben. I play bass guitar and piano and enjoy composeing music.

Hello, I'm pianoplayer009, 19 year old, female.

I am a music lover, I have a band here in our country and we are practicing every genre of music but I love country music a lot.

I just hope that I can have lots of friends here and I am looking forward in sharing everyone's knowledge about music.

Thank you to all...

Hey...I'm thePianoMan89. My name is Jared and I'm 20 years old. I'm a music performance (voice and piano/organ) major at Minot State University in North Dakota. I'm actually a double major, also pursuing a major in criminal justice.

I absolutely love choral, piano, and organ music. I'm really not much into composing, but I love hearing and seeing new compositions and would absolutely love the opportunity to even play/sing some. This place looks quite active and it looks like a good place to be!

Welcome all! Hope you guys like the place!!!

Hi y'all! I'm Irene, I'm 22. I'm a university student. I've lived in Europe and U.S. In my spare time I like to compose music and play piano and keyboard, and travel. I use music as a tool to express thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

Hello! I'm Ian and I'm secretive.

Hi, my name's Jeff. I've been writing music on my own and playing in bands for several years (usually as a drummer), and recently got interested in building my own music workstation on my computer with the hopes of eventually making original music for independent films and video games. I have a few years of experience with notation software but none whatsoever with DAW's, and no experience ever actually making music for any purpose/goal beyond my own enjoyment.

So I've joined this forum to steal valuable knowledge, experience, and insight from all of you. Thank you in advance, and thank you anyway for being musicians. This place is pretty cool.

Wasn't it Stravinsky who informed us that whereas "Lesser artists borrow, great artists steal"? Welcome to YC.

Hey everyone I'm a 15-year-old pianist, guitarist, vocalist, and obviously composer from louisiana. While I am not the most impressive at any of my instruments, I am able to comprehend music on the deepest level better than most. I compose anything from jazz to symphonic to pop to folk to world music and play an even larger variety. I love experimenting with everything I attempt.

Currently, I'm working on a celtic piece in d dorian voiced for a clarinet, flute, cello, classical guitar, acoustic bass, and two alto sax's to be played by my school's band, a 12/8 brazzilian style ballad for my jazz band, a christmas kyrie eleison for my church choir, a barber-shop arrangement of the star spangled banner for my school choir, and an indie-pop song for a friend. I'm always open to new ideas and constructive criticism.

Thanks!

Look forward to working alongside you!

Welcome,

Hello There!

My name is Derek, I'm 16. newly registered but certainly not new to the forum. I've been reading and listening to pieces around here for about a year now and I've finally gotten around to registering:D. My primary instrument is Piano, which I play for school as well as Percussion and Trombone. I also play Baritone, Tuba and I dabbled in Clarinet for a little while just for kicks. I've been composing for around 5 years now and currently waiting on a potential performance opportunity for one of my pieces (which I'm extremely excited about) and John Williams and Eric Whitacre are my absolute heroes. Hopefully I can get around to uploading some of my pieces here for critique and be an active member rather than having my face pressed against the outside of the window of Young Composers society!

Hi,

I am a female composer in Brazil; just started doing it seriously; age 51.

As a teen, I had composed from age 12, though blues, rock, folk and a little later, much more complex piano "Keith Jarret type of music" before knowing him, and also songs with the guitar, with spiritual lyrics. After entering Composition in College, I turned to Classical Music, and then started learning stringed instruments, and went on to Cello.

I have a Bachelor

receivingmusic, no matter you age, you're welcome too, actually one of the admins was thinking that the name "Young Composers" could be too excluding for older persons, what do you think ? how do you feel the site, was it kinda hesitating for you to register ? or just .... cool ?

Hello, all, this looks like an interesting nice. I play and write instrumental finger style steel string guitar. Hope there's some like minded folk around, but be very interested in getting feedback on some of my pieces from anyone who's interested in instrumental music.

Hey folks - I'm Scott. I am an amateur classical guitarist and I want to start learning composition. I am starting counterpoint with a retired music professor from a local university (ETSU). In my spare time I teach math and science at a high school and part-time at the university. I am looking forward to reading threads in the forums!

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and wanna say "hi" to all of you.

Yos:)

Hello! I'm David, I'm 15 and for about 2 years now I've been thinking about spending my life in the Musical area, starting with Conducting. But now I'm focused on composing; mainly for the basic 4-part choir =)

I was first introduced to the wonderful world of music at 7, when I first started learning how to play the piano. I continued until about 4 years ago, when I stopped taking lessons altogether. Recently, however, I've started lessons again. I take part in the California's Certificate of Merit program, and I'm hoping to reach the "Advanced" level before I exit highschool (I'm studying level 7 on CoM's standards; next year I'll do either L8 or L9).

Besides playing the piano, I love singing! I first participated in choir in elementary school (lol) and currently I'm in my highschool's Chamber Singers (and LOVING the sound!).

My love of singing has encouraged me to write music for our choir; although I haven't introduced my choir to any of my works yet.

What has really spurred my passion for music is California's Honor Choir program. Recently, the Southern-California regional honor choir held it's performance at the University of the Pacific's Conservatory of Music (I was in the choir :)). Our conductor was Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe; he's a wonderful person, and one of my idols (besides Morten Lauridsen/Skip). Because of him, and some information he's given me, I'm now enveloped in the idea of writing music for the standard Chamber choir. I LOVE the sounds I've heard; and what I can possibly create myself!

Welcome everyone!

My name isn't actually Morty, but I figured it would be a decent pseudonym, since Morton Feldman is one of my favorite composers. I guess if I were to single out a few of my favorite composers, it would go something like... Feldman, Charles Ives, Steve Reich, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane (particularly his later work, from A Love Supreme to Ascension-era work), Rahsaan Roland Kirk (native of my hometown!), Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys (Anyone who doesn't believe he deserves his place among the great American composers of the 20th century is crazy), Tom Verlaine of Television, and Sly Stone. So yeah, a wide variety, but I'm never sure if my dabbling ever sounds like any of these people, but that's fine by me. I play guitar, piano, and alto sax, and I also know my way around a steel drum. Right now I'm in high school, and I definitely want to study music in college, but I'm not sure if it would be composition or jazz studies or musicology or what. So... yeah. Hi.

Hi Morty, and welcome. I hope you didn't have trouble signing up. Was it obvious that signing up on the homepage created an account on the forum?

Anyway, welcome to the forums, and I am glad you took the initiative to reinstate the introduction thread.

Yeah, I understood that once I created an account - the only problem was that actually I tried creating an account on the forum, and it said something about "the administrator is not accepting registration at this time," which was more confusing. If you can, I'd suggest you make that message say, "please register on the home page for access to all website material," etc., something like that - if that's possible.
