Hello and welcome, Danny! So you've been composing seriously for two years? Same here. I think you'll find this is an excellent site for feedback and exposure. Stick around and get to know some of the people here - we're a crazy bunch, and some of us can get a little heated at times, but we're very accepting and I for one would love to hear your music!

Hi Everyone,

My name's David. I'm fairly new to composition, but my family is very musical, and I've played piano for seven years, and cello for five.

My other interests include writing, video rendering and editing, as well as amateurish computer game development.

Welcome aboard :D

my family is very musical

Any composers?

Hey David. I come from a musical family too - my mom's written almost 200 songs. You'll fit right in here, I'm new to composition myself, as are many on this site. There are also a number of experienced composers; seek out their advice and heed it well!

I think I'm the first composer "per se" in my family, though my Dad may have written a few songs- he was in a band. :D

Thanks very much, both of you, for the prompt and warm welcome! I look forward to exploring this site and meeting composers!

i'm one

How long you've been playing flute for? Do you enjoying playing it?

Well, I play the flute too. Quite enjoyable, though I'm not great at it and don't really have the lungs for it anymore. I started about 8-10 years ago, don't remember exactly.

Ya, you are right about the lung thing. You need a lot of air support to play, and it is quite difficult.

I wish I hadn

Well Well, Welcome Evil Monkey. Hope you'll enjoy your stay here at YC. We wish you luck at Dana School of Music at YSU. Don't worry, you'll do fine

Hi, Im Inal and i am 23. I am from North Cyprus. I am currently studying a masters degree in composition in Royal Holloway University of London. I am a new member to Young composers and also this is my first experience on a forum :)

This page looked like a great oportunity to meet other young composers as well as discussions on composition.

Well I hope to get to know you guys in the near future.

(please excuse my english :) )

Welcome, Nightfly. Post some of your work, if you don't mind.

Hello! I'm Teblyn! I stumbled across this site this morning, and was rather intreiged.

I've been reading music since third grade, when I started playing the recorder. I no longer play the recorder as well as I once did, but I took my skills from that instrument, and applied it to my tin whistle (which I play constantly)

I am a violinist of seven (going on eight) years. Alas, I'm not the most skilled player in the orchestra, but I'm working on it. I am teaching myself, slowly but steadily, to play the piano.

I have only composed a few pieces of music, all of them (save the lullaby) were just short little ditties that came to mind in the wee hours of the morning. But as of late, I've been working more and more on composing, and plan to actually finish a piece one of these days.

Welcome. Hehe, I know someone from a game with the name Telbyn. Very similar. Enjoy YC.

Hi again. I am posting a composition of mine called A SHORT TALE. its for a small chamber ensemble of 9 players: Flute, Clarinet, 2 Trumpets in Bb, 2 Basoons, Tenor Trombone, Bass Trombone and Vibraphone.

This is not really a representative of my work since i am writing in many different styles. I'll post the others eventually.

I hope you enjoy it.

(btw, why my picture does not appear when i post something ?)

You probably set the personal picture and not the avatar. Check your control panel for that.

Interesting piece. In the future, please post your works in the subforums dedicated to the particular instrumentation of the piece.

Thanks for listening. :w00t:

Hey all-

I just found out about this site. It's funny really - I have been a member of the American Composers Forum forever, yet it never occurred to me to search google for 'young composers.' I feel so dumb every time I think about it.

I'm a really competent CLASSICAL sax player (I don't spend enough time practicing to be good at jazz improv). I can play it, I just can't improvise in it.

Anyway, in seventh grade my middle school band teacher wrote this thing for grandmother on piano, and then arranged it for our middle school band (I go to a small secular private school in MN - our grade is very gifted musically and MS band was/is very popular). I became interested in music composition, and then I just kept working at it, getting better in terms of my musical ideas and development. Our school offers NO theory/comp training so it's all self taught.

I went to this awesome jazz camp in Shell Lake, WI where teachers from Interlochen Academy and Indiana University come to teach - that's where I got my theory training. Now I'm able just to sit at my computer, hear something, and generally be able to notate it right there because of my deef familiarity with tones and chords.

I've gotten a number of state awards and have attended national camps.

I will be a senior in high school this fall.

Hi! My name is Kelly and I am 15 years old. I am finally delurking myself to be a part of these forums. :)

I've been playing the piano since I was 5 and the saxaphone for about two years now (if you could call what I was doing at the time "playing the saxaphone"). I got interested in composition maybe about 6 months ago when I saw this forum, actually. I was determined to make something as great as what I heard here, so I went out and bought Finale, typed in random notes and rhythms in random places, and ended up with a big pile of unfinished scraggy.

I have been getting better, I'm trying to learn more about theory since I've never really taken theory before. I don't plan on studying composition in college or anything, I just enjoy it as a hobby. So maybe, someday I will pluck up the courage to actually post a few of my pieces :D

Hi, my name is Adam, i'm 16 and i come from Northern Ireland, UK. I play the piano and the violin, and am a member of my school's orchestra. I have always had an interest in composing so when i stumbled across this site i instantly bookmarked it and joined it after a few days.

I have never composed before but i think i will try to compose something soon and submit the results to YC.

I am so glad that i have found this forum, there are so many interesting and opinionated people here!

Hi! My name is Jonathan, 18, from New Zealand. I have loved all types of music since about forever. I play trumpet and am in several youth orchestras.

I only got into composing in my later years at high school, but I loved it so much I and am now taking a music degree with a composition major at university.

Welcome, KiwiMuso.

Here I am...

Robin...I'l try and be as helpful as I can! Looks like there's also plenty of good advice flying wround.

The main body of my writing is for large jazz ensembles...but am starting my Master's degree in composition which will entail more new music and composing for non-improvising musicians. Fun!
