I am Daniel. I am a terrible composer. I appreciate music, and art in general. I love beat-boxing, because I'm weird. I love anime, and I'm 15 and know Mitchell. End.

Hey!

I'm 16 years old and have been composing for appr. 2 years without any training whatsoever (save being in Gr.6 piano). I have recently started taking composing lessons and hope to make this my career, ideally in the video game industry.

James, that was just pathetic...

P.S Did you get it to a hundred?

Schroter was an arrogant and cowardly person Torsten. He flooded the forums with at least 20 different threads in one day. When the admins and others asked him to not do that, (We asked kindly by the way) he started complaining like crazy (and in Portugese no less). And to make matters worse, he even asked one of our longest running and nicest members (frantz) to leave, but thankfully we didn't have to ban him, and he left on his own. We found out later that he had done the same thing on several other sites. Flood them with his music, stick his nose in the air, and then leave. It was the same story several times over.

Hope this helps a little Torsten

So here's one moderator's take on Schroter.

1) Started off by putting his full biography, list of works, and links to a whole bunch of his favorite websites in all of his first eight posts. Complained but eventually complied when we asked him to cut back on the full biography and linkspam business. Called us monkeys who mindlessly enforced unfair rules.

2) Posted over 40 pieces from his back-catalogue over a period of 2 or 3 days, flooding every single one of the categories except Experimental/Atonal/Other. Complained again when we asked him to slow down, accusing us of wanting to suppress his music.

3) Aggressively insulted anyone who said anything even slightly negative about his music - even if it was perfectly good constructive criticism.

4) The incident that precipitated his leaving: Chris Shaver politely pointed out that enharmonics did not apply to string instruments, he answered with another pile of invective, a few of us agreed with Chris's assessment, he then started accusing us (in Portuguese) of conspiring to suppress all Brazilian music (he was Brazilian by nationality), and trying to convince Portuguese-speaking members to leave with him.

It was found that he'd done exactly the same thing on several other boards. Granted, he was a professional composer, and a pretty damn good one at that, having been performed by major orchestras before, but extremely detrimental to the community.

Don't worry, Torsten, it's extremely difficult to be as offensive as that guy was.

Hi every one.

I settled into doing some reading/ posting before the thought occurred to me, that I hadn't taken the time to introduce myself to you all - So I will take some time now to say hello. Thus far - I've really enjoyed being here and its my hope to be able to contribute something back for everything I able to learn from a few of you.

Like most of the members in my family - I'm a wind musician. My grandfather and two uncles were all saxophonists. I started my adventure in music training while in Kindergarten (playing around with recorders), and by the time I was in the third grade, (and being able to read music already helped somewhat ) I settled into studying the Trumpet for about a year or so, and after that - I took to playing the alto sax and tenor sax and bass clarinet all the way through highschool. I started toying around in Highschool with writting music. Two of my music teachers seemed impressed with some of my work, but neither seemed willing to get me with someone to teach me more about harmony and counterpoint. I stopped writting music for awhile after highschool and then about 20 years ago I took it up again. I guess thats why I'm here 20 odd years later - hoping to learn more. Composing for me is merely a hobby, but as with most hobbies - its a good idea to know what I'm doing right or wrong.

Hi C.J welcome to YC. ;)

Hope to hear some of those pieces you wrote 20 years ago, and of course the recently made ones too! :D

hiya im brand spanking new to this but i have lots of ideas but have been told i need structure in my work can anyone suggest any books that have revolutionised their lives as composers or otherwise really!

thanking you in advance love bean

Unless you consider yourself a technical problem/suggestion, the introductions thread in off topic, CLEARLY marked (horribly so, too!!! :P) ''introduce yourself to the community!'' in the forum description, is the place to introduce yourself.

Thanks, and welcome!

Was that really necessary?

Why didn't you just move the damn thing? :P

It is not a question of what's necessary, it is a question of what amuses me the most.

...:P

And I doubt he/she/it would have found it, had I merged it with the introductions thread.

so there.

Ah, but you could have PMed them telling him/her/it/that where to look, then they would have gotten to know the place better by having to search for themselves :P

Indeed.. But I just discovered that VB allows redirects for merges :P Incredible... Anyway, there you have it.

James, that was just pathetic...

P.S Did you get it to a hundred? :w00t:

ya.. well.. you bet I did :D

ya.. well.. you bet I did :D

That post wasn't a hundred letters. I bet you got a bit upset :w00t:

Nope lol, im usually very calm and relax. It's ok, im Nice
