Hi, my name's Rahul Chacko. I was referred to this site by Christopher Hutchison yesterday. I've been playing the clarinet since... 1998 I think. I'm not used to composing, but the IGCSE syllabus for music doesn't rly give me a choice^^. Not that I mind, it's actually quite fun. However, the main reason I'm here is to try to learn and improve composition skills, the goal being to optomise my candidature for the exam.

I've been composing for just a few weeks now, so I don't really know what I'm doing.

I'm basically in his position. I mainly play classical (or "western art" as my music teacher likes to say) music, but my interest in music isn't constrained to that.

Welcome Rite.

Hey, I don't really play any instruments and I never really had any musical education of any kind, I only started writing about two years ago and... if you just want something random, I'm your man.

Sawdust, you rock my socks.

Hey. I'm ImperialScouts, also known as Phil. I came here to show my piece. Singular, 1 piece. Anyway, I'm interested in film making. And also enjoying writing my own music for my films. Some may know Verdi_Lver. He's my bigger brother. I hope to enjoy a nice stay here. :-) .

Yes, yes... We're very friendly! :) Welcome.. :)

Hi guys, my name is Manos and I am greek. I play the guitar, the violoncello, the piano and (a little) the harmonica and I compose. Your forum has been very helpful and I would be happy to contribute as well.

Welcome, what sort of music do you compose?

Another Greek! Welcome! If you want to speak to one of your countrymen (well I live in england) look up me or jujimufu

Hello Mark! :) Mostly romantic & tonal, but occasionally with minimalistic influences. :w00t: Regarding orchestration, I use mostly chamber music ensembles and lately I co-operate with other artists (dancers, painters etc) and I am much intrigued by this interaction between such different forms of expression.

Patrida, ti leei h ghraia Albiona? Spoudes? Sorry for writing in greek, just got excited! :)

Hello. I just got here.

Wanna know more?

Don't we all?

Don't we all?

Umm... welcome?

ah, an oxymoron was waded into our midst

Hi all, my name is Ditzley, middle name actually, but that is what I go by. I play the cello and I like to compose, I have been doing both for a few years but have only gotten serious in the past year or so. I look foward to meeting you all and listening to all the great music out there.

Welcome to YC!

Hi!

My name is Andr

Hello Andr

Welcome to YC, I have been to both the Netherlands and to Sweden, lovely places both.

hello.

i'm Nick.

Welcome Nick.

I'm Robin.

...

Hello everyone. It's great to be here, and I'm somewhat overwhelmed.

First off, music isn't my business. Words are. I'm a 28-year-old newspaperman living in the wilds of New Hampshire.

But music has been a part of my life since I was very young. I played the violin for eight years or so, before quitting out of frustration in high school. I knew I wasn't very good, and I wanted more of an understanding how music worked -- not just my part in it.

Though the years I've also fiddled around with keyboards and guitar (and singing, I suppose), but always in my spare time and never to much purpose. I wrote some small songs and pieces here and there, but never quite understood where I was going with them.

Recently, though, I've started going back to the basic things that I enjoy -- things I never got to explore as much as I wanted in my youth and in school (video games, for example -- who knew?).

And I started listening to classical music again, and playing around with music. So, now, with the help of my partner, I'm teaching myself some music theory and a bit of composition. I know it sounds silly to those of you who are actually making careers in the field, but I've always wanted to work out how music is actually put together. (He plays piano and knows far more than I do.)

We've also been having fun with one of the basic versions of Finale, and I've been doodling with it. Nothing I would feel comfortable posting to this board -- you actually know what you're doing! -- but maybe in a couple of months I might have something to put forward.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and say how cool it is to see so many folks here creating. Thanks.

Welcome aboard!

...and it certainly doesn't sound silly to want to see how music is put together, it's what we're all doing here.

Hi Wirestone,

nice to meet you.

Andr

Robin -- I don't think it's silly in a general sense. It's just that many of you here already know, and have known for a long time, how music "works." I only have some general guesses, my ears and a poor sense of rhythm. And hi back at you, Andre.

Hi, Wirestone, from the department of the not-so-young-almost-thirty-composers.com! :( Good to have people at my age around! :P
