Hi, all! I'm Florence [call me Flo if that's easier for you] from Indonesia. As my screen name might have given a clue, I play the violin. I actually started on the piano but somehow shifted to violin but I still like and play both instruments. I have mezzo soprano range of voice and as fas as composing goes, I have yet to write anything [still trying...]. A friend of mine is a composer though and I occasionally perform her compositions.

Ah well...

Well, a little about myself: I'm 13 years old, and I live in a little city called Vidalia, Georgia of the United States. I'm a pianist and piano composer, and the only works I have written so far only piano-wise. My favorite genre of music is Romantic-Classical music, and my favorite composer is Frederick Chopin. Although Chopin is my favorite, I enjoy many other composers as well, such as Rachmaninov, Debussy, Liszt, Bach, and Mozart. I have written three etudes, two preludes, and two valse brilliantes (Brilliant Waltzes) and I am in the process of writing a Rhapsody in F minor. I am also a member of the American Composers' forum, and if you would like to join that site the link is this: http//:www.acf.finalemusic.com

I hope to hear many of the members' pieces in the near to far future, and the majority of my pieces will be in the piano/keyboards section of this forum. Thanks for welcoming me into this forum.

Cheers,

A.L. Morrison-Pianist/Composer/Enthusiast.

Welcome Aaron.

Hello, I am Patrick Sean O'Neil from Southern California, USA.

I am a lifetime lover of music, and noob composer. I started playing guitar when I was 14 and began playing seriously with multi-tracking my guitars, bass, and drum kit about 3 years ago. I recently (within the last week) completed my first attempt at a fully orchistrated piece (no electric guitars as would be the norm for me.) I have been using MIDI instruments for about 7 or 8 months now, and I usually just program them in note by note in the piano roll vew of Cakewalk SONAR.

As for musical education, I have none. I took a few blues guitar lessons when I was 14, but I was never a good study and did not bother to learn my scales, etc. So I am completely ignorant of whatever musical theory I assume they would teach in school.

I also can not read or write music. Luckily, I never had to because I can listen to music and play it back or figure it out note for note.

I hope everyone listens to some of my work and will evaluate it accordingly. Remember that I am just beginning with this type of music and have a long way to go.

Oh yeah, and my influences are just about anyone and everyone. Too many to list really... all of the usual classics, Mozart, Beethoven, etc. as well as lesser known Game Music composers (Uematsu, Mitsuda, etc.), and obscure metal guitarists like Andy LaRocque... Bands like Amorphis, King Diamond, Dead Can Dance, Arcturus, Metallica, Megadeth, heck, I like everything... Top 40, pop, techno, drum n' bass, even some Yanni. Music is all good to me.

I guess while I am not classically trained I have been studying music in all forms probably far more than most people you would ever meet. I just go over and over it in my head :P

Best regards to all,

-PSO

Hi.I'm Hanqian, from china.I'm 17.so still in highschool (junior). I've played piano for 12 years.I'm going to the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in the fall.

See you around:)

Hello! I'm Cecile. I am a composer, cellist, church organist, singer, and pianist. I play in 3 chamber ensembles, as well as a couple more upon occasion.

I noticed the post regarding the CPE Bach Flute Concerto in D minor. My group, Capriccio, is performing that work this afternoon, at the Atrium, in Eugene, Oregon. I play occasionally with others at this weekly Sat. event that incorporates musicians from many walks of life. Each Sat. there is some sort of music presented. It may be Renaissance, Baroque, any genre and any combination of musicians. The musicians all provide their music at no charge and it is attended by anywhere from 10 to 40 people. The presentations are hosted by a gentleman who is 92 years young, and has been making sure music is presented in this forum for the last 20+ years.

I really wish I could find more information on this CPE Bach flute concerto, before the performance today! :)

Hello, Patrick, Hanqian, and Cecile!

Hi everyone, my name is Jose. I've been fascinated with composition for as long as I can remember, but I started composing at age 13. I'm currently a freshman at Arizona State University as a composition/theory major. This is an awesome forum and I hope to be a regular member here. :o

Hey peoples! Anyway, my name's Gabe. I'm 16 and live in the United States. I mainly play euphonium (made it to states this year, yeah!) but have begun singing. I played piano since I was eight or nine, but stopped around thirteen. I've recently tried to learn it again. I want to switch away from euphonium as I have heard the only solid job opportunities in the real world are brass or military bands, neither of which I'd like to get involved with. Any suggestions?

As for my composing, I began doodling around with Finale about a year ago but stopped for a while. I recently resurfaced and have tried cooking up some pieces (unsuccessfully). I still have yet to take a theory class, but I frequently hear melodies and phrases in my head which I hope to have the skills to soon put down on paper.

As for the kind of music I like, I pretty much like everything. This ranges from Hip hop to Classical or Jazz to Avant Garde. Some of my favorite composers are Brahms, Ravel, Stravinsky, Copeland, and Danny Elfman. Some of my favorite modern day artists are David Byrne, Joni Mitchell, the Band, the Gorillaz, OkGO, and the White Stripes.

WOW... A lot of members joining today!!

Hey to you all and hope you have a good time on the site!

Hi. I'm music_<3 And well. I'm stuck on my composition and would be grateful if somebody around here could help me navigate my way through sibelius. XD Thank you.

Hello my name is bobby. I am fairly new at composing and could really use some help.

To start I like composing pop songs. I am having a hard time with creating my sections a & b a bit different as I progress in the song. What type of techniques can I use to make the succeeding sections sound familiar but yet a little different?

Good evening. I'm Jostein, 17 years from a beautiful village called L

Hi.

My name is Max Keenlyside, and I am a composer/pianist/soon to be bandleader from Prince Edward Island.

I specialize in ragtime, all subgenres of ragtime, and early jazz. I have absolute pitch, and have been playing ragtime piano since I was nine. To date, I have about 30 compositions, a few of which are published at the Authentic Ragtime Co. (www.authenticragtime.co.nr).

If you want to hear me play, you can check out this YouTube video of me playing Maple Leaf Rag:

I look forward to offering what I can in this forum!

Thanks,

Max Keenlyside
