Hello, strangers! I've returned, I think.

I knew you wouldn't be able to keep away for long

I thought the same thing! Besides, I realized YC wasn't my problem - it was something else. Ah well, all is well.

Eeek! Look at my member number and post count! The member number is higher than your post count, Mark! Am I a n00b now? I need to put something in my signature... OK, now we're good.

Love the conflicting sig and join date

Welcome back Anders!

Welcome back mate

This is Brandon. I just wanted to say I am sorry for getting so emotional on the board. I apologize to Matt and Nicholas and Daniel, and I wish the best for you all.

Welcome on board Sea Captain Yaahhrr

Hi all,

My name is John, I'm 21, and I guess I'll call myself a serious hobbyist composer. I've studied lit and classics at college, but have always been a dabbler in music. I played rhythm guitar with a church choir from about the age of 8 to 12, clarinet for a while in high school, and the mandolin for about the last two years. I'm certainly not very good at any of these instruments, but I play regularly with the hope that some day I'll be able to entertain an audience playing as much as I currently entertain myself noodling. I'm sure that by learning something about composition, I'll get much closer to this goal.

I'm entirely self-taught theory and composition-wise, so I'm hoping that the knowledgeable folks on this site will be willing to tell me where I've gone right and wrong in my study. Right now I'm trying to learn simple counterpoint and harmony, writing canons and chorales and pretending I'm Bach and such, but I'm interested in understanding, and maybe composing in, more contemporary styles. While I have the greatest respect for composers like Bach and Handel, I enjoy the music of guys like Bartok and Ives too. I'm also interested in building a little classical repertoire on the mando in addition to the folk and 'grass I play now.

Well, sorry that was so long winded. This site looks wonderful.

Sveikas,

John :)

Greetings, John,

you will surely enjoy your stay, then! Stick around! :)

Where are you from, John?

Welcome and stuff.

By the way, I vote Manos as the official board welcoming party. He is deinfately the friendliest. HA.

:o:O:O:O

well you aren't sarcastic and rude like the rest of us, so you're perfect!

Nah, it's probably because I can't handle english as well as you do!:o

I'm David and I live in South Carolina, USA. I am 18, and I play the viola, violin, oboe, and clarinet. I've been composing seriously for the past three years, but I've been involved in music since I was nine. I am influenced by all music, though I am primarily tonal, to the extent of pandiatonicism in one of my pieces....

I am really poor at orchestration and sustaining counterpoint.

An oboist poor at orchestration? Nonsense. I bet you are being modest.

Manos, what other languages do you speak?

Greek, obviously.

Manos, what other languages do you speak?

Apart from greek and english? I am somewhat good in japanese and mediocre in french. How about you?

It seems that Japanese is the new trend, no, Mano?

Je parle un peu de Francais (but my spelling sucks of course :o:D:D:D)

You Saphire?

Japanese, the new trend??? Why would you say that? :o I didn't learn Japanese because of trends...

My spelling in french sucks as well (not to mention these silly accents that I can't figure out how to produce except from

but...I have just one brain, you know!

:o

Yes, and you should use it for music, you know!

:P

hihihi!
