Hello everyone

My name is Mathias and I am a 21-year old composer from Denmark. I just stumbled upon this forum, trying to find out how to do double stops on strings, and I got immidiate reponse from kievins and manssg. That's what I call service :)

Thus - this looks like the place to be.

BTW my main interest and occupation film scoring and musical theatre

You can check out my homepage with music demos (done with EWQL Gold Xp- unfortunately only 2 live recordings yet - more will hopefully come) on Forside

Looking forward to learn

Mathias

That's what I call service :)

Yeah, that's what attracted me to the forum as well. Welcome (:

Yay! More Scandinavians! How do you do, good sir?

Heej!

I'm Erik, 17 years, from the Netherlands, and found this webpage via google (although I cant remember the search criteria, but it ought to be something with composing ;) ).

I compose for around 2 years now, also play piano for 2 years, and panflute. My musical style is, ehm, a crossover between epic orchestra passages, sad piano solo's and a bit of ambient music. A mix of Edgen and Enigma, with a Howard Shore touch to it.

I already browsed this site, and it's cool to see that you guys posts the scores with the songs, that really helps novice composers as myself.

For music, you could visit my soundclick, although most of the music there really s*cks.

You'll hear from me!

Cheers,

Erik

Hi guys

This is eddie, come here through google. Nice to meet you people here.

Hi my name is Felix and i'm 16 years old. Composing means freedom for me.

When I compose there is nothing else to take care of,nothing else more impotant then the next note. I have been composing for at least 3 years. Now I'm trying to improve my style through being here and hear your critics and comments. But I hope that I will receive some good ones. (lol)

Well I'm an old geezer, but a young composer so I hope no one will mind my chronoligical age. I've recently started composing again after a long, long break and was looking for an online community of composers that would give me an opportunity to listen to new works and interact with people that are interested in composition. After reading many posts and listening to much music here, I think this is a special place and I'm excited about the interaction here.

I spent much of my youth in music and got a degree in composition and then ended up in a "real" job, and composition got pushed to the back burner. A couple of years ago the desire to start composing again came back and I decided to take it up again. I got some music software and hardware with the thought that these tools would allow me to compose in whatever style I wanted and without really knowing where it would take me. Now I'm working at finding my voice and seeing what direction it takes me. I've recently become very interested in the sounds of different world instruments and I'm trying to find ways to use them in the pieces I imagine. Most of my ideas seem to revolve around percussion instruments right now. I'm still very much in the process of working through this discovery and probably always will be. I've put my last piece on the forum in the Avant-Garde section although that really doesn't describe what I'm doing. I also have a website at jstonemusic.net with a couple more pieces on it if you're interested.

I'd like to add that I don't think it matters if you're 8 or 80, we all share the quest to learn more about creating music and that is a never ending, but very enjoyable journey.

Howdy, just a 21 year old novice composer here! I found this site through google when I was searching for information concerning the composer Masashi Hamauza. I'm majoring in music basics at the moment, hoping to get a composition degree down the road. I've been playing guitar for four years but seriously for two. I ultimately decided to become a composer after listening to works from Koh Ohtani, I had the idea floating around in my head for sometime but upon listening to his music, I finally made the decision :].

I'm very interested in learning from this community, I've browsed the forums a bit and from what I have seen, it looks like a friendly and constructive place to be apart of!

Thank you.

P.S: The names Jonathan.

Welcome all!

And don't be put off by "Young" Composers, we welcome composers of all ages!

Hi! I'm Liam, a 15-year-old pianist, percussionist, composer, arranger, conductor, reorchestrator, programmer, hacker, writer and eccentric (LOL) from Australia. I am an active member of ZREO, and an resident composer for Generation X Games (www.freewebs.com/generation-x-games/). I am also on Newgrounds. I am a huge import gamer (not that Australia has a games market) and revere people like Koji Kondo and Nobuo Uematsu. I tend towards Romanticistic influences, like Rachmaninof. Well, I think that just about covers it. XD

Hi, I'm D.C. and I'll be turning 16 in a few days. I'm really in to musical composition and performance. My primary instrument is the oboe from which I began playing in 7th grade and picked back up this year (10th), do to the fact in 9th couldn't afford the rent anymore, which led to my overly generous music teacher who bought a $2,000 Yamaha Oboe just for me, which to many's surprise, am the only one who plays in my county. I started off in middle school playing the flute, which I could honestly say, didn't take a liking to me... But after my middle school music instructure suggested a possibility I play the oboe under certain circumstaces, I jumped to it. I had to write a detailed report why exactly I wanted to learn how to play the oboe and if I was up for a challenge. I love the oboe, but still in need of perfection.

On another note, at the same time, I began composing music (the wrong way). This evolved to what I am today after taking a musical composition class at my highschool. I like to think I can write well, but I don't seem to follow the rules....(e.g. chord progression, cadences...etc). However, even after all of that, I was one of the highest in that class, passing with a 100+ percentile, which still gives me great encouragement.

That's pretty much it...I've seem to rant on far too much already. But just fyi, for anyone's common acknowledgement, I also play the drums (I was in drumline for a period of time), I own a 4/4 violin and am anticipating on learning everything possible about it. I also plan on learning a large array of other instruments including ones that are related to the oboe...if price doesn't keep me from it.

Hi, I'm Mike, from the UK. I play the piano and have been composing ever since I can remember, though properly since I was 13.

What about you?

I'm Kristina, from the UK (although I'm Armenian). I am 13 years old, and I play the piano and have been composing for 5 years. I wrote 21 pieces so far, and composing is a very important part of my life.

I'm new to this website, so can someone (who feels like it) tell me a bit more about it? Thanks

Welcome to all who've jsut arrived, and KA, in answer to your question check out [[welcome]] and [[home]]

:D

...wait, you can use Wiki-syntax internal links on the forums? I didn't know that. <__<

I asked Mike for it a few months ago, and, being the wizard he is (Expelliarmus!) he managed it

Hey there, I'm Do Kesubei and currently I'm neither a musician nor a composer. Music is very important to me and I've been wanting to learn how to compose music for a long time, which is why I signed up for this site (as well as learn more about music in general, like that seemingly complicated topic, Counterpoint). I've played instruments in the past (violin, viola, clarinet) and have a rudimentary understanding of music theory. Classical's nice to listen to, but I spend most of my time listening to pop, rock and jazz.

Welcome, this is an excellent place to start learning, I learnt the majority of what I know about composition from people on here, or from books recommended by people on here

Before you start on counterpoint I'd recommend aquainting yourself with the subject of Harmony, either by purchasing a textbook on the topic, or from reading over some of the threads in the lessons forum, as many of them are dealing with elementry harmony.

I look forward to hearing your music ;)

Instead of another, however informative, introduction of another self (me), I have choosen to write about one of my musical ideas and why I joined Young Composers.

I try to learn how to write music that is centered around the listener's experience. I know some composers did not (and still don't) compose with this in mind. Personally, I think that's wierd, but again that's just me.

I'm here to learn and I'm most of all looking forward to recieve feedback on my own music as well as reviewing that of others.

That's about it for now. Questions are welcome.

Do you have horse? If not, why not?

Hello,

I am new to this forum and I go by the name TimSmith.

I have been playing music from the age of Five starting with the piano, though I gave up after a year because I, my parents, couldnt find a satisfactory teacher. I then moved countries and took up the flute, which I have been playing for 8 years now. I also took up the piano again.

I am now primarily an organist, my playing is satisfactory for my standards at least. I can maneage decent amounts of Bach, but I havent really tried any other composers such as Buxtehude as Bach is my favorite and can listen to his organ music years on end. If you

would like to know anything about the organ or about how one actually works, feel free to ask.

I started attempting to compose from the age of 13 to very little success. I have many ideas, but get too distracted and never finish them. I am now looking back on these ideas and am wanting to finish them. Hopefully this forum will help.

Well, I think thats enough from me.

Hey guys, newest member to YCMF right here. I'm from Regina, SK (That's in Canada by the way, for those of you who didnt know that :P). Been a musician for most of my life, but I don't think I can completely call myself a composer. I've arranged a couple things, but never fully composed. I play flute, piano and bagpipes. (Bagpipes for 8 years, flute for 2 years, but flute would be my primary instrument right now). Heading into the University of Regina next year for a Music Education degree. Glad to be part of something like this! Talk to you soon.

Ooh, someone from Saskatchewan. How unlikely is that?

Well, welcome, Derek!

( My particular interest in the fact that you come from Saskatchewan is because I grew up there, if you're wondering. Not in Regina, though. )

(That's in Canada by the way, for those of you who didnt know that :P).

Where's Canada?

Kudos for the bagpipes, one of my favourite instruments! Welcome to YC, enjoy your stay and please vacate your room before 12:40 on your day of departure.
