Lonely Fields

Featured Replies

This one is at least a few years old. I think this was my first piece working with EWQL samples and it's still actually one of my favorites (go figure :P). Very heavily influenced by Jeremy Soule's Oblivion soundtrack which I was listening to nonstop at the time.

I think this is very lovely. I too love the oblivion soundtrack, and I think you did a great job creating that "oblivion" atmosphere :)

wow. love it!!!

i am a huge fan of mr soule, and you certainly captured his style with this piece.

Awww Murr this is so nostalgic!

I quite like it. Definitely channeling the Soule, but not in a bad way though it's really obviously derivative. May as well be a subtheme in the series. Being an older piece, you've already learned from it and improved, so I'm not sure what to tell you except that it's melodically quite lovely and that the production values need some work. Still, for the first piece using EWQL it's quite good.

Not much else productive to add here: thanks for sharing. Always nice to reflect on old work! :)

Thanks everyone. :) Glad you enjoyed it. Aside from the great visuals at the time, I really think Soule's soundtrack is what makes Oblivion a work of art - there's just so much emotion in it. Marius, I'll have to PM you some time to see if there's any reading material, etc that you would suggest for better production methods. I've been pretty much running trial and error for years now and definitely would like to improve in that area. Thank you all again for listening!

This is good for being a first try with EWQL.

If you ever find any reading material on how to make things work better, let us all know. Once people find their secrets, they usually don't tell anyone.

I will add a few of mine that I think help with EW. Use the DXF patches as much as possible. Use as many patches as possible. Do tons of CC work on every note.

Instruments in the back of the orchestra should be delayed a bit and have added reverb. EQing needs to be done to bring out the best tones of the instrument. This is imperative when numerous instruments play at once.

Good luck.

Ron

Beautiful music. Can't really find anything else to say. Really liked the samples being used.
