The Final Ride

So this is a new piece I made, it is mainly a sort of dark, minor action piece. I sort of had this idea of say, the main heroes are in this battle with demons, dark spirits and what not. This song would basically be the background to it. There are some themes of the darkness coming, a theme for the main villain, and then the somewhat heroic theme. I worked on this practically all day and honestly I'm happy with it. Hopefully you'll enjoy. The title may not fit, but, in my mind it does haha :) Also sorry, once again still no score to go with it.

The Final Ride

Nice opening. Love the use of instruments. Accordion sounds a bit too loud when it enters.

Nice use of the chromaticism. Lol, the accordion later sounds like a Merry-Go-Round. I like how your instruments develop although I wish I could hear the drums have a couple more flourishes in the first minute and a half. More rolls! More crashes!

Nice groove at 2:30. Feels very badass. `It's almost like a dance. Perhaps around 3:05 where it's just the piano playing one note with its LH, why not make that bass line more interesting? If you keep the same basic idea, but throw in some other notes every once in a while, it would really help.

Almost feels like Austin's Powers around 3:50. Another solid groove.

I like the ending but I think you should just polish up those final notes in the strings to enhance the realism.

And it's a decent length too!

I loved the bass that caught my attention straight from the beginning! The eerie strings add a very stunning feeling to this. The percussion is pretty cool also. The driving beat in this really keeps this piece moving, like a motor moving a car during a ride.

I really liked the section around 2:27 with the piano.

@Doovon, thanks very much for your comments on the piece The groove at 2:30, is a theme I made years ago along with 3:50, and I decided today to make this into a full song, so thanks for your view on it the piano part is the only place where the theme was from, along with accordion. As for 3:05, I admit it could have used more then one note, but personally I wanted to keep it at a one note area, however I'm sure a note change here and there could have helped. Once again thanks very much, and it is Matthew haha, sorry if it says Kevin?

@Wendell, thanks for the bass comment , I felt the piece needed that sound to it so luckily I made the right choice haha. I had a lot of fun with the strings in this piece, and I agree I liked the percussion, with the driving beat.

It overall sounds quite cool. I really love the flashy use of percussion here - excellent work, what did you use to compose this??

I think you used some sort of DAW, am I right?? If so, there are some slightly synthy sections here. I'm not sure whether you were aiming for realism, but some parts, like the part at the start sounded a little fake. HOwever, in parts, particularly the later section didn't really suffer from this :) The high tambourine at 3:45 did feel a little out of place as it got a little repettitive at times, and also intruded a little due to the high, shrieky volume. Still, this is overall good, and well composed throughout :)

I used Mixcraft to compose this. I believe I used DAWS haha, and yeah the beginning wasn't intended to sound realistic, other parts were so it was a mixed bag. Thanks for the tambourine comment, it was a bit repetitive I agree, but overall thanks for the comments

Ahhhhh, this is really good! The rhythms are fantastic and immersive, and the music is very well developed.

Nice use of dissonance too: it doesn't overwhelm the piece, it just adds some spice to the piece, which is generally how it should be.

I like the transition from 1:46 and back's first theme into the 2nd theme at 1:47: the beginning sounds like both forces are moving towards each other, getting ready for battle, and then from 1:47 to about 2:35ish they're actually fighting. When it goes back to the first theme after that, it sounds kind of awkward though, especially as it just stops suddenly, and loses momentum: why go back to that sort of "we're steadily moving towards each other" feel? Is that part of the scene in your head?

3:39 was great! Totally unexpected, but not clumsily done at all: great climax for the piece.

hey Serge thank you VERY much for your comments! In my mind after what you said sounds like the actual fight and I go back into the steadily moving towards each other feel, in that I had the idea of like, so the two armies have began fighting, and they are attacking and all, then (sorry I sort of had a clear idea of a film and what'd be happening) But I was imagining so one of the main heroes hasn't arrived at the battle yet and he is making his way during that scene and when the track reaches 3:10 he sort of has this duel with some creature, and at 3:39 is when he arrives then the climax takes place and it ends with them winning haha. Anyway sorry for giving all that information, I am very glad you enjoyed it thank you very much!

John and Serge have covered the musical comments I have, so the only thing I'll point out is that your percussion section sounds extremely muddy and dulled away -- it's a cool little beat, so why not re-work your mix a bit so that it sounds more open and has a bit of extra clarity? Listen to any track of Bear McCreary's for an example of great percussion mixing even with lots of percussive elements and large ones going at once. Notice how it always sounds pristine. That's great engineering.

This is a very evocative and narrative piece though, I enjoyed listening to it. Spend some more time polishing it up and tightening loose ends, and you'll have yourself a sweet portfolio track. Lots of variety here, which is good for showcasing your skills.

For a second there I thought that this really might have been the Final Ride lol Maybe even more specifically the Batman ride at six flags. I can see the hero battling it out at the end, but not like a super fast anime style battle scene, more like two greek gods getting to the climax of their battle after having fought all day and just going massive blow for massive blow, the dark sky booming with every one. It has like an epic "fate of the world depends on the outcome of this battle" feel to it. Great piece DRUE
