March 14, 201016 yr A first draft of a title screen piece for a project I've been working on.. I'm doing it for free, but what I'm looking for is the experience.Anyway, this was rejected, but I thought I'd share it here. :)What I'd like specifically is some feedback on the piano "performance." I got a lot of comments on my last song about how it sounded mechanical so I definitely wanted to step it up for this one.So how did I do? :D Title Music
March 14, 201016 yr It sounds good :) Great job, at the start I think the bass part of the piano is playing a little mechanical, but for the rest it sounds pretty well. May I ask what sort of project this is, you are working on? Why is it rejected? Etc... greetz
March 15, 201016 yr Author It sounds good :) Great job, at the start I think the bass part of the piano is playing a little mechanical, but for the rest it sounds pretty well. May I ask what sort of project this is, you are working on? Why is it rejected? Etc... greetz It's just a small video game project, it's not commercial or anything, just a hobby game, because it uses ripped graphics. You can check it out here if you want: http://www.gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=80774.0 The reason why it was rejected is because it was too upbeat for what he wanted. I knew that though when I was writing it, but this song is what came out at the time. That's okay, because I have a better use for this anyway. :) I'll go back and see about the beginning.. At least this time it's not the whole song. Thanks so much for the comments!
March 15, 201016 yr First of all, awesome piano there - it's a fairly good simulation, in fact, it sounds better than what I could have played :P Apart from the bass, there isn't anything I can pick up particularly synthy, but one little nitpick is that you could have used a wider velocity loud, from pp to mf. Of course, I'm not too sure what plugin you use, so I can't really say anything about that. Otherwise from that, great work!! It's a pretty high quality piece, pity that it didn't go in.
March 15, 201016 yr Hey Alex, Sorry to hear that this was rejected. It's tough, but the project is always the boss in incidental music — gotta make sure it fits the bill. This sounds extremely Final Fantasy/JRPG, so that's cool. Very peaceful and pleasant to listen to and pretty adept orchestrating for the ensemble. In terms of the piano rendering, it's better than your last for sure — I'm a pianist so there's plenty I could nitpick, but for a virtual mix using the tools you've got, it's really good work. Well done. What is the piano sound you're using, by the way?
March 15, 201016 yr I really enjoyed this! This is exactly how I like to hear a piano played. You said you were trying to make it sound non-mechanical, well I think you did pretty good. for some reason it wont buffer past 1:19? Maybe try reuploading it?
March 16, 201016 yr I like this quite a lot, actually. Too bad it was rejected; but that means that it can be used for something else!
March 16, 201016 yr Author What is the piano sound you're using, by the way? M-Audio Premium Grand Piano It's pretty inexpensive compared to most, but the quality is definitely there. I figured since I use piano a lot, might as well get a good one. Their guitars sound good too, but there are definitely cheaper options. Thanks guys for all the comments! They are very encouraging! I'll be posting the song that's actually going to be used once I get a final mix together, so keep a look out. :P
March 16, 201016 yr hey i liked this intimate piece, i felt a human touch behind those keys. i didn't feel the piece wasn't musical in anyway, it sounded like personal writing of your own mood, which is great on its own, but-tell me if i'm wrong, was the theme requested a moody relaxed, about musing?
March 20, 201016 yr I thought it was great! (Have you ever played Final Fantasy? This reminds me greatly of there Title Screens) Everything will sound slightly mechanical with MIDI, but it sounds very realistic!
