This was made with a sci fi game in mind. I'm hoping for feedback so any comment/criticism is welcome! Feel free to be brutal if necessary. I'll be checking out commentator's works as well. Thanks!

modern game song

I'm commenting while listening. I liked the beginning very much. The celeste-glock wannabe and the gentle string swells really work well. The celeste figure is nice. I don't really like the sudden transition to the synth. I'd like it much more if the celeste figure was continued with it. I think the bass drum is too loud in the mix and also the snare instrument. I think I would like it more without the percussion (or at least these percussions) in general. The ideas and the harmonic material is pretty good and sets the mood quite good. Now I'm not really sure about the sci fi vibe, but it definitely has that mysterious quality to it. Can you please tell us what DAW and samples and synths did you use to create this, so we can be more objective on the sound quality?

Welcome to the forums!

very nice, I love solo cello...

definetely sounds like sci-fi!

It is a little repetetive, it sounds a little like age of empires music towards the end there, not sure if thats a bad or good thing

Hey megros! Welcome to YC!

Cool track! It would definitely fit in with a sci-fi theme.

I enjoy the opening. My only comment is that synth bell thing doesn't seem to fit perfectly with the strings. They sound so good, but the synth sounds a bit cheesy in comparison. I think a vibraphone or marimba might be a better choice.

Nice groove at 0:37. I'd like to hear more strings throughout that section. They'll give that section a nicer, fuller sound.

You have a lot of cool contrasting sections which is an impressive thing to hear. It's too easy to just write one or two sections and then call it a day. I like where this piece goes.

At 1:52, turn down the percussion and turn up the synth. The percussion is too in your face.

Nice addition of the cello around 2:20. Make sure that we can hear all the notes; some of them sounded like you missed them. When the strings come in the right ear, they sound a bit strained. Any chance you could playing them a little softer and turn up their volume? I think you'd achieve a much nicer sound that way.

Yo, the chord at 2:58, GENIUS! Very surprising. Nice way to end it.

Last little comment, I liked how you panned everything around. It sounded very good. The balance is off at times between the instruments so just make sure nothing that's in the background is ever overpowering anything in the foreground and vice versa.

Excellent work, megros! I look forward to hearing more from you.

hi magros,

welcome by the way, i listened to your piece, i feel as though a lot of motives are in the piece, all good btw, but they are starting and then something changes and continue to another direction, it repeats throughout the piece, also your orchestration has the same direction-

changing back and forth and mixing orchestral with synth-not sure it worked. i think in the end of the piece it started to sound like something is being focused that you can go from there.

keep it up, i think you have a lot of good ideas but you need to work on your development for them!

cheers!
