Glorious Uprising

Featured Replies

This is another cue I'm working on for my USC masters submission.

Glorious Uprising

It's a masters submission, so I expected good stuff, and yup, you've done it. This is a very solidly done semi action/tension cue.

A few little nitpicks though. I don't know you intended for a light, slightly jarring effect, but that's what I get. It sounds to me like you tried for a very zimmeresque sort of percussive beat, but didn't make it heavy enough. I love that metallic instrument coming in at 0:16 - what is that (I know it's used a lot, but i never knew the name) It reverts it back to the more standard Hollywood-esque sound at that point, which I would h ave thought professors will love.

It's a excellent transition into the second section with the staccato strings. I thought the horn was a little too delayed - I would have personally used a horn with more "bite" , you're using EWQL I presume?? THe strings could be sequenced a tiny bit better at the point of the main horn section - try to get various velocities if you're aiming for realism.

Overall it's very nice, it's just these tiny weeny things that you should brush up on for a better grade ;) Of course, most of these are mainly up to the composers preference, so you should decide for yourself.

Cool piece, thanks for sharing, and hope to see you around!!

Very cool!

I agree with CheeseLord that the horn is a bit delayed and in my opinion a little weak. I think it's entrance - the first few notes - are great. After that, I think you need to continue the build that has been happening the whole song by giving it some more bite. What if you tried doubling the horn with a brassy trombone, after those first opening notes?

Anyways, just a thought. It's great!

Hey there,

So I'm going to be honest with you, I wouldn't be impressed with this as a masters submission from what I'm hearing thus far. I'm hearing a lot of Evolve-ish loops and transition effects and then you bring in the rest of the instruments nicely except the horn staccatos are really strangely mixed and/or sequenced. Are those the EWQLSO solo staccs?

As a work-in-progress it's fine, and you have some solid material to work with, but there's little sophistication in the development, no unique colours or structures in the orchestration and writing, and nothing that makes it stand out as YOU yet. All necessary elements. For the record, if it's unfinished then you've also posted it in the wrong section — it should have gone into Incomplete Works and only posted here when you were done with it.

Keep working at it, I look forward to hearing it finished.

I really appreciate the honesty guys-thank you. This is the first time I used evolve and la scoring strings since I just bought them. I'm definitely looking to get familiar with these programs and take this idea much farther. And the tips on uploading are appreciated since I'm just starting to get more involved with the forums and this community. Having a blast so far and getting a lot of good feedback as well as helping others.

Hi,

I think I have to agree with Marius here.

I think this cue would become more powerful if you shortened it big time. And try to increase tention at the start with some low pitched strings playing some "unusual" chords. I am curious how this cue will end, so keep us posted with your musical ideas :)
