Shugosha Theme

Featured Replies

This is a short theme I wrote for a (indie) video game by the name of Shugosha for which I'll be writing the score. It's an eastern-themed fighter sort of game, and I sort of ran with the eastern elements as far as flavouring the score, but didn't go the full 9 yards.I also thought it would be fun to attempt to recreate some of the sounds from Zimmer's Sherlock Holmes score (for the same reason; and again I didn't go 9 yds).

Pretty good mate! I liked the main theme being played by different instruments, felt very ethereal at times and pretty chaotic in others. Good stuff :D

Hey Daniel!

Nice work landing a game gig! Nice eastern flavorings indeed. Have you given Okami a listen to? It's an amazing asian score.

I'm not sure why you went with Zimmer's Sherlock Holmes. It's cool, but doesn't really make me think eastern brawler. More like Romanian, brawler, mystery.

1:45's kinda fun when scraggy starts hitting the fan. Pan the instruments around so that we can hear every individual bit of crazy in this piece.

I'm gonna relisten to this piece and pay a bit more attention to the panning.

Nice ending! Make sure you don't cut it off too soon before we hear the fade out proper.

Those bongos at 1:39 are a bit too close and loud.

Cool track, Daniel!

This is sooo bad donkey :) Seriously, this is brilliant stuff - and I presume you used a DAW, this is TOO good for Finale.

I love the chaotic harmonies and the way you blended east with west. I really can't find much to fault. The panning for some of the instruments, like John said, is a little off, and one of the percussion instruments (can't figure out it's name, sry) seems to be put way out to the left. However, I don't know whether that's intended??

Apart from that, awesome, awwesome, awesome!! I look forward to seeing more of your compositions :)

Hey guys, thanks all for listening! No idea why I missed all these replies, but I found them now :)

@John Not familiar with Okami - will check it out.

The panning could probably be a bit better, yea. And those bongos are definitely too loud.

And yes, the mixdown cut off - I was in a rush :-/ I might get around to reuploading at some point with these tweaks.

@CheeseLord Thanks :) Yes, I used Sonar, although I fully notated this one in Sibelius first (which I don't usually do). Thanks!

@LordNemrod Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it.

@MelodicSmiley Cheers - glad you liked :)

very nice, i especially liked the opening, i know its tough to develop jap stuff-i've been experimenting with this also. the transition is ok though, although, its pretty solid stuff overall, like the mock up of the strings with the woodwinds-brass, some good moments of "live" playing.

wooooo impressive work !!

themes are beautifoul, atmposhere is amazing, orchestration is professional...

what can we ask more ??!!

Thanks guys :)

I'm working on more stuff all the time, so I will post it when it's uploaded. I've improved my sequencing since this theme - hopefully will improve every time I post something new!
