Romance for cello and piano

Featured Replies

Unimaginable cheese. It had to come out, though, or it would have haunted my head forever.

I actually enjoy playing the theme, too bad Finale takes away all the humanity and rubato that would make it listenable.

Oh, well.

Piece and score

cheese indeed, but ok :)

One question about the counterpoint. In ms 19 and 21, you have a slightly accented line Ab (should be G# I guess) F E D. To me you should finish that line to a C, And I guess it is very well possible to write the next tuplet CAE in stead of ACE. When you do this, you have the 3rd in the bass, and then you might reconsidder putting the 3rd also in the soprano. I would suggest change that C to an E, but I am not sure, whether I destroy the motive now :)

Another issue is that the intervall between sopr and bass is sometimes a tritone, which is a little of a breach of style, which you might want to avoid. This happens at ms 19 for example, and also at ms 6 and 10. Suggestion for ms 6, change the bass of the second half of that measure to a D, and/or remove the double F#, by changing the second F# (2nd beat) to an A

Hope this helps

"breach of style"?

What style? :P

And I agree to the C thing but I would simply add it to the existing notes, therefore making the first eighth of measures 20 and 22 a simultaneous C and A.

Its not cheesy, its very good i tell you. really romantic and flowing! good work!

nice with the doublestops in the cello, it makes the point clearer some times.

I really like making romances myself, and its nice someone else doing it also

If you want, make another one for violin also! ;) maby i can play it :)

This piece is actually quite nice. I wish I could write "cheese" like this.

This was not that cheesy. Good stuff though, I have two remarks.... please end the piece in the cello also on a G. And about the piano part: it isn't that bad that at times only the left hand is playing (which could also be played by alternating hands), but I did not like the broken chord written like two upward motions of 3 notes (measures 1-14 second half of every measure). Sounds very dry and naked to me. Why not either add a some notes in a second voice to counter it, or just repeat the figure of the first half of every measure?

Haha! The original ended with the cello in G too. But I had my doubts about that. So I waited for one of the people to whom I showed the piece to suggest leaving it at A... and one did! XD

I prefer it like this.

I'm sorry, but I like the broken chord written like two upward motions of 3 notes. Dry and naked sound = digital and mechanical recording. I like playing it like that "live". Repeating the figure sounded too tiresome to me.

But I agree with the fact that it is kind of "lonely" there. It wasn't meant to include cello, but else it would be veeeeeeeeeery boring. I just didn't find any pleasing right hand accompaniment so far. If I do, I will add it.

Okay, it might be a bit cheesey, but oh well.

I actually like it, it's a very romantic-style feeling, and the cello and piano are perfect together. I like the chords, all of them, and the piano "orchestration", so to speak, is done quite well.

But alto clef? Really, why did you use that? Cellists learn TENOR clef, not alto... If you had really wanted to use alto clef, you could have used viola... there are only 2 notes below the c string on the viola anyways.

Good piece though!

Keep composing!

I think you did a great job! I actually liked the unresolved cello chord, as it added to the dreamy quality. :)

I like it. Cheese or not, it's good music! The only thing that's actually cheesy about it is the piano part, I think. *shrug* Whatever, everyone can use some good cheese now and then.

I second the item about high cello clef: they read tenor frequently, but never alto. Three second fix.

Also about the last note in the cello. It's technically not "unresolved" because the piano has the resolution and the cello cuts out when it happens. As it is, I personally think it is awkward for the cello to have an implied 9th (or unresolved suspension) only to drop it in the end. But I'd LOVE if the cello kept that note over a final tonic chord in the piano. :) Or simply end on that note. Why not.

9/10 at least.

Thanks for sharing, Hector.
