The Last Encounter

Hi everone,

Here is my latest piece, called the last encounter. I am here again with a short action piece this time! Ok it might be generic, but still I think it has a different rhythm than most of those action tracks we - semi professional/ hobbyist composers - make.

About the video:

Inspired by action music in games, I made this little track (it loops!). I imagine this track could play in some sort of oriental adventure or action game when a certain fight takes place. I here was experimenting with lots of percussion (yes I know some of the percussion doesn't really fit in this oriental picture :P), and a different time signature (7/4). Action music really suits itself for weird time signatures, if you ask me .

Very cool piece you have here. The time signature, in my opinion, was a great call. Really makes this piece and keeps my attention focused.

Nice use of percussion, you make good use of ambiance through it (crashes, cymbal slides here and there)

The melody needs some work, though it will suffice since this is a piece aiming towards being looped.

I love :28 - :38. Nice transition to the next chord with the choir shouts thrown in. Adds to the oriental sound(do I hear a french rip at :33? works very well)

I also like the use of 7/4! I think it makes the music to feel less predictable. Like 4/4 that you feel the beats easily. The loop seem to work very well and the production is very well done. Though the choir sounded a bit low in volume for me.

The piece would work very well as background music. It does not stand out, but it does not need to. :)

very well produced, it delivers right on the first moment, i would love to see some more development in the changes(harmony or melody) and i lacked the oriental feel to it, but its very dramatic and well coordinated.

Thanks for the kind words! Adamich, I agree with you about the melody, it doesn't really go anywhere, but I guess it would be just good when it would be playing when a someone is gaming, since you don't want to be listening to the music too much :P, while it still should provide a nice mood. The French horn rip is indeed at 0:33, I have added many textures throughout the piece to keep it as interesting as possible :).

Nyu: I might try and increase the choir volume a bit.

The samples and use of panning are spectacular! (I had to go to your link on YouTube to hear it, as the video on the Social Network would work :facepalm:) I really like 7/4 time, although I rarely write in it. You use it really well -- it flows really well, and yet there's an unpredictable flair to it. If you hadn't said it was in 7/4 time, I wouldn't have known :lol:
