Tango for Piano

A piece for my portfolio. Would never have attempted a tango of my own volition, but it was either that or a waltz. There are a couple of mistakes in it... mainly unnecessary clefs!Tango for Piano

Tango for Piano

haha, did you not like to write one? nice job though. The harmonies in ms 34-7 are gorgeous, but contain compared to the other measures more function harmony. It felt not really out of place, but does draw attention. Not sure whether this is good or not...

Overall I really liked this. Clearly not a regular tango, but still recognisable as such.

This to remember a "Milahaud" stile for the your use of harmonies

But there are some point tha I non very like

Wow, this is savage! :D Speaking of which, it reminds me of a less-clustered version of Leo Ornstein's Savage Man's Waltz. Ever heard of it?

I love its rawness coupled with the slower, more savored sections. And I love the culmination of sheer crazy at measure 31, the poco rubato section. And for some reason I really love the section at measure 41 & 42.

One complaint I have is a small one -- the ending seems really strange, and that last note doesn't seem to close the piece quite right. Is there a reason for that? :hmmm:

Overall, really nice work though, I enjoyed it

(Btw, I took the liberty of replacing the awful midi representation of the piece with a better piano sound.)

I love this! I love the harmonic language, the drive of the piece, the form. It's a wonderful piece, definitely one of the most original piano pieces on this site. I think the ending is somewhat uncalled for and you could make it just a bit longer, but that's my only real criticism. I think your use of dynamics is perfect, and the melodic content is very beautiful. Congrats on writing such a great piece!

I liked this. Really isn't a common tango (I see a few times "el dos por cuatro") but this have the scence of the one, with modernist aestetic. I loved the unusual times and disonnances.

Keep in the work!

Thanks to everyone for your comments! And apologies for not getting back sooner!

In reality, I wrote mm 1-25 well ahead of the deadline, and wrote the rest of the work the night before. BAD PRACTICE, but I work best when I have a deadline.

I realise that this is not your regular tango. I wanted to take the hand out of it slightly, by having the main theme in 9/8 (tango 4/4 with quaver added) and make blatant and sarcastic use of the habañera rhythm.

apologies for the ending... I didn't have time to finish the piece properly!
