What Is The Goal Of Composition?

Please take the question in a broad sense. I am not just asking why you yourself compose. Try to be philosophical and consider for a moment what might the role and function of musical composition be for humanity, what its goal or purpose could be. Is it the same as the goal of all art or different from that of other arts? What exactly is happening in the creation of a piece of music? To make the question even broader, one might ask "what is the goal of music?"

It's true.

Music is simply expression. It's an outlet of human creativity, spiritual or scientific. We make it for unquantifiable reasons. The density of answers to this question is so thick, no one answer can really cover everything.

To be fair, I didn't really answer the question asked. I tried to provide perspective in a nice way instead of the toxic way people normally respond here.

One short answer I can give is: music is a form of communication. As such, it is more non-specific and emotional than language. It could be a language of the soul and of emotions, a way for people to express themselves emotionally, in a language particular to the communication of emotions and every spiritual and mental state (as well as their different "shades") in the most precise way.

Personal self-expression sounds a heck of a lot like the romantic period.

Because it's painfully pleasing. A kind of artistic masochism.
