March 27, 201312 yr Is there any way to create a decrescendo on one note? I have several instruments holding long notes, connected by ties, and I'd like them to dramatically decrescendo during the note (IE, fade out). I have put hairpins under the note but it has no effect on the playback. However, when the notes are not connected by ties, the notes change volume individually, and not gradually. Is it possible to change the volume of a held note while it is being played? I can upload an example if necessary. Thanks in advance.
March 27, 201312 yr Yes. Sibelius has a nasty tendency not to crescendo or decrescendo on held notes unless the crescendo leads to a specific dynamic (pp, p, mp, mf, f, or ff). So if you want to hear the crescendos/decrescendos you can put a dynamic marking on the beat after the hold, and then set the dynamic marking to hidden. Then your score will look the same, but Sibelius will crescendo/decrescendo properly.

August 17, 20178 yr Thank you so much for the response, unfortunately the instructions in that thread didn't work for me. My issue is that I cannot get a crescendo to play back when the note is tied. When the notes are not tied, the crescendo plays back but each note is re-attacked (when I am just trying to get a crescendo throughout one long sustained, tied note) - similar to the problem OP had. I exaggerated the volume of ppp and fff to make sure I'm hearing the difference, but there is still no difference. I've also tried turning off Live Playback but the problem still exists. I'm attaching a screenshot since I can't upload a Sibelius file, if anyone could take a look at it and perhaps notice where I'm going wrong? Is it simply impossible to create a crescendo over a single note, or tied note? Thanks so much for any help!

At least, I know that a crescendo or diminuendo under tied notes is impossible to be played in Musescore. I therefore use legato bows in my playback scores and make these bows a little bit more horinzontal: Maybe you can try that too.
August 13, 20214 yr As to finding the Cresc/Dim Plug-in, remember that Sibelius has plug-ins within several tabs. The Cresc/Dim Plug-in is in the Play Tab.
