Harmonizing melodies

Ceresz

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Kevin, but I go under the nickname Ceresz. I live in Sweden and I'm 14 years old.

My interests include basically anything creative, composing, painting, writing, etc.

The only instrument I play (and own) atm is the guitar, but I have basic knowledge over the piano, and would like to learn more about "classical" instruments.

There we go, an introduction before asking for help :)

Recently I started getting interested in composing for classical instruments, after having composed a couple of tunes for the guitar.

I have basic music theory skills from learning the guitar, like scales, modes, intervals, chords, etc, etc.

However, I suck at harmonizing my melodies,>_< and that is what I need help with. :D

So, does anyone know a good website that explains this? Or could you explain it for me.

(I hope I posted this in the correct forum, if not, I apologize. :))

Thanks in advance!

-Kevin

How is it exactly you suck? You're saying it doesn't sound good? Could you share an harmonized melody then?

Well, it all happens by instinct to me, but try looking at each note and see what chord fits in. If it's conventional, your melody might follow typical chord progressions, which helps.

Yes, it doesn't sound good.

I will share one later, and I will try to look at each note and try to find a chord that fits it.

Thanks!

:EDIT:

Just made this up, I hope it doesen't suck too much, somehow I think your tip elped ;)

Sorry, no MIDI, it was doodled in NotePad :P
