Short Sound Collage

Recommended Posts

Hey! Recently I've been listening to a band called Olivia Tremor Control a lot, and something cool that they do is incorporate noise and sound collages into their music (I'd recommend checking them out if you're into 60's/70's psychedelia). Anyways, I love the way they use noise, so I thought it would be fun to try creating my own sound collage. I got about 30 seconds in, using a mixture of recorded and synthesized noise, and then made this recording. Unfortunately, I forgot to save the project and it reverted back to it's original state. Instead of going back and recreating it, I'm just going to start a new one, but I thought I'd use the recording that I do have to try and get some feedback for the next one. So, let me know what you think!

Well, that was short... I know it's just a recording idea but still; doesn't seem like a lot to work with. I hope this gets developed properly.
Anyway, that band uses incorporates melody... are you saying this would just be a baseline for whatever actual melody you decide to put onto it? If that's the case, then this is fine. It ends abruptly, but it has a nice mysterious march feel which is rather nice. Feel like it could use a little more defined bass at the beginning of every period or something, but the treble atmosphere is cool too. Experimenting with timbres by messing with either distortion or amplitude changes for all your higher timbres to give the impression of a melody; that could be cool.

It's a good start; I'm curious to see where it goes.

I'm really excited to hear what you do with this. I love music that explores the possibilities of sounds that may not be considered "musical" in their original form. Beyond music, I've always been fascinated by sound in general. These are good sounds to work with.
