Smallish Fugue in G Minor

Featured Replies

Hi!

I researched fugues recently and decided to try my hand at creating one. I did also use a ground bass, introduced in the first four measures. Feedback about the development section would be helpful, as well as any mistakes I made in the subject section.

Thanks!

Before I say anything else, fix measure 28. E-flat to E-natural.
Anyway, it's a nice attempt. I lost the subject a little bit into the piece and it's not easily detectable in the score, either. I'd say probably around A. I get you're introducing a countersubject but the refrain to the main subject comes in so shortly after that that it doesn't build on itself very much, rendering it kind of ineffective.
If I just focused on the beginning part, I would say that you have the right idea, definitely! I still hear some clashing tones, especially in passing and neighboring, which is dangerous because that prevents proper resolution, and ends up sounding awkward rather than purposeful.
It's pretty good; just make sure you stay focused through it all, I think. Cheers!

I definitely caught the E-flat after I uploaded it :headwall:

Thanks for the listen!
