Total Serialist Piece

Featured Replies

Never before have I labored on a piece so long for such disappointing results...

This piece could be longer also. Then again, Webern wrote short pieces also so I guess you're in the clear.  No need to be pessimistic. The composition works! Kudos! (and I'm faaaaarrrrrrrrrr from a serialist!)

Nice try!

Although I like atonalism and contemporary techniques and styles, I'm not very fond of total serialism. I've never done anything under controlled randomness (using computers and things like that). I mean, the few attempts I've made were "manually" manipulated.

I think that total serialsm doesn't allow taking control of what you're doing. Instead, "classic" dodecaphonism does. Perhaps I haven't gone very deep in total serialism, but that's my impression.

Sorry. Edited.

Repeated.

I think it must be really difficult to make something you like with total serialism. As far as I'm concerned, I thought it was at least interesting to listen to and it didn't feel entirely robotic, and in that sort of system I feel like that's as much victory as most people can get. But I have to admit, I don't know much about the topic at all.
