Prelude No. 5 for Guitar - Twilight

Featured Replies

I'm hesitant to post too many of them, but this is the 5th guitar prelude just to show what comes directly after Aurora. @Ken320, this is more or less where it goes to after Aurora. It's supposed to be quite the major departure. The next two after that are also atonal, until the final.

I like this one very much. More than nº 4.

This one is richer in every way.

@Luis Hernández Do you think my concept of going to atonal from a perfectly tonal place works with Aurora, or should I get rid of it?

Well I think that, on the whole, is a great idea (from tonal to atonal). A sort of "evolution".

The two are so radically different with absolutely nothing in common that the second seems like a non sequitur and people will be confused, even if you explain it somehow. I think I would eliminate the first one.

@Ken320 hm... lots to think about. I might reorder them instead with this one first or second as the most tonal.

I don't think it matters where you put it. If the movements are not related in some observable way, people might think you're playing a joke on them, which would be unfortunate. In other words, you may be asking too much of the listener for the sake of a concept. They have to be related musically.

The dadaist in me says that's actually fantastic but the theorist in me is still dubious.

Haha! I was going to say Dada! The trouble with Dada is that no one will give it a second listen. Why should they? It's not about the music.

Interesting point. This might be why the dada visual art movement was so much more successful, since it's not an art bound by time. I think dada music can be weird enough to go again though! 😂
Anyway, I didn't like Aurora much anyway. I'll probably write a more bridge-like movement between the two styles instead. Thanks!
