Another Fugue in d-minor

Featured Replies

The first file is the piece in 120 bpm and the second file is in 90 bpm

Hi @potet, and welcome to the YC Community! I think both the previous fugue you published and this one sounded quite good. A sheet music would help a lot to see the counterpoint though, could you please include the score in the post?

Besides that, from what I could listen the progressions (in both melodic and harmonic terms) and the balance between episodes and free parts are quite well done! I haven't studied counterpoint formally myself though, and I often tend to break the rules in regards to the structure of the school fugue, so probably my opinion won't be as valid as that of other users and reviewers in this forum. The only think I could make some critic about is the answer. I see you tend to simply repeat the subject in the same key and with no variation. First, the entries in a fugal exposition must be in different pitches. Preferably, the answer (whether it is a real or a tonal answer) shall be in the key of the dominant to the original key.

Just a question: how long have you been composing fugues? Just for the sake of curiosity, to my point of view these are quite good, but the basic rules of fugal composition are a bit blurry to me in both of them, independently from the counterpoint itself. And lastly, please include the score!

The first one at allegro tempo sounds much better to me. But please, attach the score. I'd like to have a look at the counter point.

@Nloki I have been writing fugues for 6-7 months. @Guillem82 I have added the score

It sound good, better at 120 bpm.

Be careful, some intervals are impossible to play (measure 42). A bit different that the "perfect cadence"is interrupted by a Bb chord.
