Mazurka in C sharp Minor (Revised)

Recommended Posts

Revised and expanded one of my earlier pieces. The accompaniment sounds rather bland and repetitive. Any tips on that?

Thank you

I love it! Its always a pleasure to hear a new mazurka, and this one is very beautiful and idiomatic. I’m sure it would sound even better with rubato, which might smooth over Measure 15, the only part that sounded slightly unusual to me. I personally didn’t think the accompaniment was too repetitive, but I do wish it was a bit longer. Perhaps you could extend the themes a bit and repeat them, or add something like a scherzando section. That could also allow you to use a different left hand pattern if you like. Nevertheless it’s still a very good mazurka, and I hope you continue writing more of them in the future.

Very nice work! I agree with @bkho, the left hand is perfectly fine given the difficulty level. (In fact, I think it's rather variated enough to keep it interesting even for more advanced pianists.)

My only issue, and I hate to bring this up, is that a mazurka is typically in Lydian mode, and this piece isn't. Difficult to do since it's in a minor key, I know. I don't think its lack of Lydian mode-ness is anything serious, just wanted to bring it to your attention in case you wanted to attempt Lydian mode in future mazurkas!
