Hello Young Composers!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! New member here.

My name is Alex and I'm a composer from the UK, formerly 100% amateur hobbyist, but now a student at Leeds Conservatoire in the north of England.

I mostly write instrumental music in a tonal-harmonic style inspired by Romanticism and film music, but I'm currently working on a stage musical.

My favourite composers include Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, John Williams, Joe Hisaishi and Takashi Yoshimatsu.

Looking forward to being a part of the community!

Hi. Beethoven also happens to be one of my favorite composers. I have been composing for 3 years now and I'm now able to compose my own pieces for orchestra. My compositional style is greatly influenced by Beethoven, but also influenced by Bach, Mozart, and Romantic period composers, especially Chopin. I'm currently working on a sonata for Violin and Cello and should have the second movement, which is actually the first one to be composed, finished by this month.

You can clearly see what I mean by greatly influenced by Beethoven with this piece here, my first piece for orchestra:

1 motive, the scale up a third is used to build up tension, and at it's peak, it's very Beethoven's Fifth esque(Repeated diminished chords twice, the way that the coda builds up).

Hello and welcome!

I too live in the UK, and tend to write in a style influenced by Romanticism although I do use other styles like you say! I may go on to study composition (probably RCS).
