PeterthePapercomPoser
Many different composers throughout music history have written waltzes - from Viennese through Russian and others. What is your favorite? I like Khachaturian - Masquerade Suite - Waltz for it's chromatically non-functionally moving bass line and an intoxicatingly dreamy melody.

bkho
Sibelius' Valse Triste. Though I do also really like Russian Waltzes like those from Khatchaturian and Shostakovich.
PeterthePapercomPoser
This is one of Chopin's less famous waltzes - The Waltz in Ab major Opus 42. I heard it for the first time at a concert, at a very fast tempo, performed as an encore by a touring Chinese pianist.
