January 30, 20215 yr Hi everyone! I've been thinking about writing some stuff for fantasy inspired settings (like WoW, Skyrim etc.). I've come up with these ideas and there were quite a few of them, and thus I decided to put them all together in one suite. Any feedback is appreciated!
January 30, 20215 yr Very good, strong piece, harmony progression remainds me Korngold a bit occasionally. I personally would use wider harmony in some places, for example somewhere around 2:35. And maybe around 1:45, where trumpets (?) play the main melody and strings have these additional countermelodies, I would suggest, that the main countermelody alternates through the strings (for example it is played once by violins, then violas then cellos etc.) and maybe varies a bit more, because the unisono trumpets are still (or maybe it is only one trumptet, sorry, I can't hear it properly).

February 3, 20215 yr Really cool piece, good handle on the orchestration and harmony (some of those chord progressions are pretty satisfying) - the audio rendering is also really cool, those sfs on the trombone chords for instance... Something to consider is making the transitions a little tighter; some can be abrupt if the music calls for it (like the one going into the final section) but more 'build-up' or 'come down' before and after climactic sections might give the piece more flow. The ideas themselves are good and idiomatic, and you clearly have a good idea of what it is you want. Another note, my personal taste would be to give the horns less foreground time; they sound amazing, but they can definitely be overused, especially in epic settings with bombastic ideas like here. February 7, 20215 yr This is really cool, I definitely get a fantasy soundtrack vibe out of it. I could definitely see this being in a fantasy film/video game A few thoughts I had: From a dynamics perspective, it seems like the piece is either very soft, or very loud, without a lot of in between. Moreover, for most of the piece it seems like there are a few bars of loud, then it suddenly drops off to quiet for a few bars, only to suddenly return to very loud a few bars later. I think if you took your time building up to some of these loud sections and utilized the mp-mf range a little more it would make the loud sections more satisfying. As it stands, I think about 60%+ of the piece is marked forte or above, which gets tiring after a while. I think you could be a little more daring with your orchestration, especially in the louder sections. Right now it's either strings or loud brass with the melody for most of the time. I think the lower voices are underutilized from a melodic perspective, for most of the piece they are playing half notes/whole notes, maybe give them the melody from time to time? Thanks for sharing!
