Edom (The Red City)

Featured Replies

Edom is a place mentioned in the Bible, which means red or red city.

Well ... I really enjoyed this creative impressionistic work.  It reminded me of Satie in its feel.  It evokes a very serene yet somewhat tense mood.

Lovely,

Mark

In what way did it remind you of Satie?

I think Satie was fonder of modal and multimodal music, although he wrote many different things.

Perhaps this is nearer to Debussy (differences aside) because of the use of quartal harmony and the whole tone scale (or Messiaen's 1st mode).

It's the way you use the space in the work.  Yes, you could say Debussy, absolutely; yet for me, there is hollow ring  that reminds me of Satie.

Wow, this is really interesting. I had to give this a few listens to feel like I caught everything. To me you blended beauty and dissonance really well with this one. Great use of quartal/quintal harmonies, and the chord at bar 31 was magic. Thanks for sharing!
