"Thank you for oganizing this event!"

Well, the nights are getting longer, the frosts are appearing on the ground, @PeterthePapercomPoser and @Thatguy v2.0 are locked in battle...

It can only mean one thing - it's long overdue time for the annual Young Composers Christmas Music Event!

The Brief

Same as last year - write anything you like inspired by a winter celebration of your choice! Or, if you don't celebrate anything, maybe a piece to capture gazing over miles of snow (or grass if you live in the Southern Hemisphere) ...

If you want to participate, pop a comment below! You could have a look at last year's competition for inspiration if you like:

It would be great to see lots of you taking part! No prizes, no winners, just a way to get the creative juices flowing during the Season.

Submissions will open on the 1st December. There will be a separate submissions thread, so look out for that! There's no time limit but you'll probably want to have your piece done by Christmas, or at least the end of December.

Excited to see what you come up with!

I'll be participating!  And I will be giving out special Christmas Music Event 2023 participant badges to those who choose to participate so other users viewing your profile will know at a glance that you participated!

I've finally finished my entry!

I'll just leave this as the submission thread! Since there's a little less interest than last year.

I'm going to enter as well! Make something all warm and fuzzy and wintery...not my usual...but that's the fun part!

I am going to enter to earn Peter's beautiful badge! Hopefully I can make it by writing something troll LoL!

"Thank you for your participation. Your usage of sleigh bells was amazing!"

Here is my submission! It was a fun and different kind of challenge for me, and I'm fairly happy with the outcome of this. Will definitely be participating in more in the future.

"This was so fun to listen to, and very beautiful, it deserves its own thread. Thank you for participating this year. Now go make that thread!"

Here's mine. Very rough, apologies. It's three variations on the Christmas song "God Rest Ye Merry Assorted Genders". The last one is sort of upside down as far as possible. There was going to be a full orchestral 4th but it's a bit chaotic here what with work and things, so it ends a bit abruptly.

There was going to be a full orchestral 4th but it's a bit chaotic here what with work and things, so it ends a bit abruptly.  I stand less chance of finishing it than a celluloid cat chasing an asbestos mouse round hell. It's in E flat minjor and tonal aside from some inebriated adjustments.

Alas, it hasn't been refined or properly balanced. But...heck...Eat drink and be merry!

Hey why don’t you post it individually too! It definitely worths it! What you consider rough is much better than most of us ha!! I enjoy the folklore style! The 1:37 clarinet is beautiful, as well as the pizz. passage. The abrupt ending ( not the evil random or abrupt pauses) well fits the chaotic end of a drinking party right? Thx for sharing and joining the event!

I wrote a doo dad, I’ll post it here later. :)

"Time to get groovy! Great rendition with the drums btw & thanks for your participation."

Ok, here is my submission:

I'm still working on it: so will probably make some more tweaks over the next couple of weeks (especially to the score, which is a mess rn).

"Wow, what a fun combination of voice and organ. Very fitting during the XMAS season. Thank you for this wonderful submission."

Here it is! I should give people some feedback now since I've posted two pieces without doing so. Gotta even it out!

I've decided to name my piece "The Feast Of Cheese", and have added an alternate version with a percussion track.

Your music seems tastier with the mentioning of cheese!
