"What a grand intro! And fun waltz section. Reminds me of people getting together, and dancing about. Thank you for your submission!"

Hi! This is a short fantasy I wrote for Christmas. I came to know of this event only a few days ago, and I've been quite busy, so I only had time to create a short three movement work spanning only 3 minutes and 20 seconds. The playback quality is not the best, and I apologise for the lack of dynamic variety. I'll be posting a much better and well-developed work next Christmas!

I'll also be posting other works of mine that I'm working on when I'm done with them. Hope you guys can comment on those and help me improve!

(P.S. This is my first work that I've posted on this forum and it's based on a recent trip of mine where I got to see snow. It's fully programmatic but I'll leave you guys to figure out and interpret the meaning by yourselves!)

Hope you all had a great Christmas! I'll review the last few pieces probably later today.

Another massive thank you to you all for participating - it's been a good year for the event. Hopefully I'll be able to run it again next year, if not then someone else will.

And @PeterthePapercomPoser, is it time for the festive badges?

Merry Christmas!

Nice piece!

Do you want to post this separately into the main piano music forum and then link it into this thread?

Melodically and harmonically it works really well. I like the fantasia element of it, meaning I'm kept on my toes, but it would have been good to hear more development of each idea throughout the piece. Something to think about for next year?

Definitely has a blizzard-like feel. The section at about 2:10 however, has a much warmer, by-the-fireside vibe - captures Christmas nicely.

Thanks for entering the challenge, even with limited time!

You say, "where you got to see snow". Have you never seen it before? I was born in January in the middle of Alaska... 😄

It's fun to figure out what the meaning of your music could be, but it's also great to hear your intended theme if it's programmatic! I'd love to know the story behind the music. As it stands, it reminds me of old style animated storytelling, where the transitions from the scenes were narrated.

Lovely themes, and you definitely took us on a ride with the emotional changes. A bombastic yet haunting intro, then a devious waltz, onto the final after party dance at the end. Thanks for sharing, and make sure to offer some feedback to others on here, you'll get lots more attention to your music!

Well done 🙂

Here's mine. Very rough, apologies. It's three variations on the Christmas song "God Rest Ye Merry Assorted Genders". The last one is sort of upside down as far as possible. There was going to be a full orchestral 4th but it's a bit chaotic here what with work and things, so it ends a bit abruptly.

Um, let's not understate the best title for Christmas song YC 2023 edition. @PeterthePapercomPoser, there should have been a badge. We biffed it

I know you were pressed for time, without a score and omg RL hogwash. But this was still expertly crafted as I've come to know your music. It's like you just took Christmas music and swirled a bunch of your humor (humour?) into it. I love your style, and everything is just so polished. It's sounds lighthearted yet exquisitely mature.

Hopefully work hasn't been too chaotic, and you were at least able to enjoy the holiday as much as I enjoyed your music. Btw, I liked the ending

Program still for you to guess! XD
