May 15May 15 Hey everyone, It's been a while. Here's my submission to the Spring competition; overall while composing this I did a lot on like, 5 different days, because I kept forgetting about it and then working on It! the instruments I chose are: Guitar, Piano, Violin, and Cello. I tried to make it (sort of?) Interesting with my Instrument choice which of I forgot to put the 5th one. Its a little short, but It'll do. I mostly did this for fun and have no intent on winning. oh, and also I misspelled the MP3 file. Great. spring competiton.mp3

You did not know what the instruments were playing! Playability: This is impossible to be played by anyone. Execution: this failed to meet the goals of the competition Form: This piece barely any proper form or structure. Taste: sadly, this is not with in my musical taste. (Note: It hurts me score a piece this low)

May 23May 23 Hi @therealAJGS ,I would be regret to say that this one is a less competent piece in this competition. i don't quite think the music captures the landscape of a rainy weather to me. The scoring of this piece is not as polished as other entries, as the music to me is in B minor but there are many unnecessary accidentals in the score without a key signature. The flow of the music is less moving as well, sometimes it just stays without moving forward, especially in passages when there is only one instrument lingering, Even though it may be harsh for you to receive comments not so positive, I hope you will take it as a learning opportunity! Thx for joining the competition!Henry

There’s a certain rhythmic pattern, a few clichéd lines. But overall, it lacks coherence and the score defies all logic.

I have a very different take. While I'm not sure this reminds me of rain, this DOES remind me of meditation with an Asian influence perhaps. I'm not sure if you were going for that, but that's how I feel. I love the mood you portray too, even though it's dark sounding, you were able to portray a sense of peace and contemplation in my opinion. Very nice work, and creative!
May 26May 26 @therealAJGS One question, do you have an intended title for this piece? We can change the title so it better represents the music.
June 2Jun 2 Melodies Themes Motives:The only perceivable motif is the ascending two-tone-repetition, mostly in fifths.Harmony Chords Textures:The texture seems to be more or less „random“. The harmonies fluctuate between simple intervals and unplayable clusters.Form Development Structure Time:I would say, it is in „free form“ since I could not recognize any traditional musical form or structure.Originality Creativity:Yes, it has clearly a kind of „originality“ and „uniqueness“ among all submissions in the contest.Score Presentation:Although a score is provided, it raises more questions than it answers. Which instruments are playing? What key is the piece in? How is a musician supposed to read up to nine ledger lines?Instrumentation Orchestration Playability:Since there is unclear which instrument is actually playing, the playability is hardly judgeable. Some of your „chords“ or clusters seems to be unplayable on every instrument.Execution of Given Challenge:Beside the criticism on the other criteria so far, I’m a bit disappointed that you did not take the contest as seriously as it could be easily done (even with few or no musical skills). The task of the contest was to depict a landscape musically and this subject inherently requires to think about what you want to represent in the piece first. Therefore it is not understandable for me submitting the piece without having a title or idea. And honestly, I do not associate the mood of the piece with „rainy weather“. Rather I think of annoying insects circling around me.Taste:I don't really like music that sounds unnatural, like it's coming from a music box. However, your piece—though annoying—offers an interesting contrast to all the other romantic pieces that might lull you to sleep if you listened to them one after another.Melodies Themes MotivesHarmony Chords TexturesForm Development Structure TimeOriginality CreativityScore PresentationInstrumentation Orchestration PlayabilityExecution of Given ChallengeTaste32181155Average Score: 3.25

1 hour ago1 hr Hi, Alarik. Please see my evaluation of your submission below.Melodies Themes MotivesHarmony Chords TexturesForm Development Structure TimeOriginality CreativityScore PresentationInstrumentation Orchestration PlayabilityExecution of Given ChallengeTasteOverall533611553.6Melodies/Themes/Motives: There was something of a melody present in the piece, and I noticed themes that were repeated throughout. However, none of it really kept my interest as there was little deviation.Harmony/Chords/Textures: The piece was stagnant, never drifting from b minor, and the note intervals likewise rarely changed.Form/Development/Structure/Time: The structure of the piece was severely lacking, with themes popping up randomly here and there, and new ideas introduced that (from what I could tell) didn't build upon previous content.Originality/Creativity: I found this submission a little stale, but still somewhat original.Score Presenation: In a word, the score is abysmal; it doesn't have even the barest of minimums. I don't know what instrument is playing what. There are hanging ties. No key signature to speak of. The enharmonics are all wrong.Instrumentation/Orchestration/Playability: This is, unfortunately, totally unplayable. Moreover, the writing isn't idiomatic as evidenced by the fact that even without staff names, I can't tell which instrument is which based solely on the written music.Execution of Given Challenge: Despite the problems with musicality, I did find the piece vaguely reminiscent of a rainy day.Taste: I think you have potential to write good music - given a bit of dedication to music theory and notation. Yes, the music was repetitive and chaotic, but it was not unenjoyable. Thanks for submitting, and happy composing!Jordan
