Nilay's Dream (Orchestral Overture)

Featured Replies

Ok on to the bad comments :w00t:

I couldn't get a grasp of the meaning of this song. I mean it just sounded,... I don't know. I read all the good comments and thought it must be good. But after all, I didn't enjoy it as much. It was very detached and hard to follow. But obviously, that's what you wanted it to be.

I don't know what to tell you, it's not me who studied composition, it's you, and you should know what you do. I feel a little awkward to tell you this, I feel obliged to like it just because you studied composition...

The dream must have been quite a nightmare, I heard very dark passages and dark creatures  Quite a lot.

I liked the ending however. I don't know why. It sounded better. In some way.

I liked the ending. And when I began to like it, it was over.

To feel obliged to like it just because I studied composition?! I mean, come on ...

But it's true! I mean you should really know what you do, as opposed to me, I do it by ear, not by some theory.

And as it appears to me, you're a very good composer, so why should I not feel obliged? It's just some feeling I got, it makes me feel bitter to give you bad critique.

Ok on to the bad comments :)

Please, don't call orchestral pieces "songs", it's awful and shows a lack of knowledge, which you might actually have.

Maybe the music is simply too modern for you. Understandable. To each his own.

The recording session was yesterday. It was an amazing day. The first time I ever had the great feeling of listening my work performed by such professionals. They were absolutely stunning, never had rehearsals, played the piece on spot, no practice nothing, and it sounded amazing ! It was conducted by Jack Jarret. The guys at the Abbey Road was also great, each expert at their job and even they were also musicians. The recording engineer had the score in front of him and he was following and giving suggestions to the players and the conductor. I just sat there and felt like, these guys knows what they are doing and I cannot suggest anything better, they are already doing everything.

Anyway, It was an opportunity which who knows will never happen again to me again. It's sad actually, being there for couple of hours knowing that this is a moment of my life which may never happen again.

I strongly encourage every composer on this forum to try their luck for the next years NOTION competition. It definitely worths the try.

I have just updated the link with the recorded version.

Beautiful! Just beautiful...

You are so lucky!!!

Bloody fantastic!

Amazing!

Well done! No need to say anything about luck! you deserved it all the way!

An awesome recording, so deep and warm in the low register. A great piece too full of colour and subtlety. My only criticism in that the piano solo section seems to come out of nowhere, it becomes a piano concerto all of a sudden and I am not sure if it works or not....but hey, this is just a small quibble.

Fantastic work sir, I salute you! :P

You finally posted the LSO recording! It sounds absolutely fantastic!!!

I am confident that this piece would more than capably stand alongside most contemporary works programmed in the LSO's commercial concerts.

Congratulations once again! What are you doing with your life at the moment? Are you trying to make a living as a composer?

Thoroughly enjoyable. Nice use of the lydian mode.

Absolutely Wonderful!

Night Fly...hmm. I remember when you first came to this board I didn't like your music. But it has gown on me so much. You are on my MP3 player and I listen to your music almost every night before I fall asleep. So....basically what I am saying is I am sooooooo syked that this is going to be recorded by the LSO. Can you say "most played track" ? I can. And so can my MP3 player....;-]

Shoot. I didnt realize that it was ALREADY recorded. I just listened to it. OMG. You are amazing.

cool music! You have an interesting compositional style, I think it is really unique, (although I can definitely hear influence by composers such as stravinsky and bartok. and theres nothing wrong with that!)great job on the orchestral piece. I would say my favorite aspects are the bouncy rythms.

Just wanted to add my congratulations... although having listened to this, I must confess it was VERY MUCH DESERVED!

This piece is fantastic and invoked lots of incredible imagery! The blending and use of timbre etc is incredibly sophisticated, and really makes use of the best each instrument has to offer.

And the way it is constructed makes it one of the few piece in this style that I've really enjoyed. Finally, some incredible, rich and vastly enjoyable music which isn't melody-centric.

Bravo!

Very cool. Great job!

Inal, this is wonderful music! I very much enjoyed listening to it. Astonishingly well orchestrated - your technical abilities are remarkable! And you composed this a few years ago... I can imagine how you must have evolved a great deal ever since then and you're probably composing with even more clarity and depth by now. Your contributions are nothing short of inspiring and uplifting for the whole mankind! :) Love&Peace, J

It's been long time since I uploaded this piece of music, I am surprised and overjoyed to see there are still attention coming to it. I must confess I have not been composing music in this style for quite a while now. But I am going to get back to it. Thank you all for your nice words. After all, I do not compose music for myself, and I am so happy that you are enjoying it. Thank you again.
