Charlie Gregson
Here is a thread where anyone can ask "What is your opinion of _______?" Discussion ensues. I'll start. What is your opinion of Steve Reich?
robinjessome
What is your opinion of Steve Reich? Fascinating, profound theoritian. Music sounds like it was written by a profound theoritian - for me, boring and unlistenable after five minutes. Very interesting - on paper. He does manage to get some brilliant phasing effects though...

PianoManGidley
What's your opinion of Milton Babbitt? For me, I can't stand his music--it's far too stoic, which IMO defeats one of (if not THE) main point of music.
Guest JohnGalt
Hehe, I agree.

M_is_D
I think Elliot Carter needs to die. Fuckin like 98 now. Not only that, he continues to compose on a regular basis!
Alex
I hate Ravel's bolero. It bugs me. Heard it WAY too many times. So, how 'bout John Williams?

robinjessome
So, how 'bout John Williams? He's good as what he does....and is particularily good a reworking Mahler to fit over Harry Potter... Not terribly creative though...

Or Prokofiev to fit Star Wars, etc etc. I like his music though.
Nightingale Incorporated
Bellini has written some of my favorite operatic music. However, his operas are stereotypical and not often performed (around here, anyway). Not nearly as popular as Puccini, but much better liked for his baritone rolls. "Suoni la tromba intrepido!" So, what do you think of Ralph Vaughan Williams?
Keerakh Kal
Flos Ca-Who? Anyone heard of Eric Whitacre? ~Kal
PianoManGidley
Anyone heard of Eric Whitacre? I don't know of anyone in band or choir who HASN'T heard of Whitacre. He's got a good sound and good style...my only complaint is that sometimes it feels like he's writing music that he knows will sell and be popular. Of course, that's just my totally subjective feeling.
