Scene: A family member is in their deathbed, and everyone is gathered around. The air is bleak, solemn, and quiet. The last few seconds is the final good bye as their soul leaves the body. I tried to make it as minimalistic as possible, with very few chordal changes, with the E-F# theme playing over and over. It's a very simplistic piece but I think the soundfonts really bring out the emotion. Influences are Ryuichi Sakamoto. Let me know what you think!
  2. It was very close between 1 and 4, but I had to go with the last one! Well done, everyone. EDIT: Oh no, I meant to vote for #3! I’m sorry for messing it up! I hope we can edit the results somehow ... :/
  3. Thank you both! Words cannot express my utmost happiness caused by your amazing compliments. Thank you very much! Stravinsky is my greatest example and hero, so to be compared with him appears a dream to me.
  4. Nice piece! I like the rhythmic material; it keeps my interest. Just a suggestion: Perhaps you can do something more in the higher register of the cello to create more contrast. Very joyful!
  5. This piece was performed by the NBE (Nederlands Blazers Ensemble (Dutch Wind Ensemble)) with me performing the voice (hopefully my voice is not that disturbing ). I submitted it to a Dutch national composition contest, to which I already participated last year with my piece ''Batterij,'' which can be found on the forum as well. This time I did go to the next round in contrast to last year. Actually, it was a very real surprise for me, haha! The judge's commentary: ''A new Stravinsky from Ede [Dutch village]. The piece is incredible and the progress that Maarten made through is astonishing. Moreover, his performance with the NBE was fantastic.'' For the few minutes we had to rehearse the piece, the performance satisfies me. The performers found the music very enjoyable and well-written. They were very enthousiastic, which is a great compliment to any composer. Unfortunately, I am not able to share a .mov file, so I have created a YouTube video.

Sounds awesome! I love me some minimalistic pieces! On a more serious note, if done well, having few chordal changes a slow tempo and playing only with variations around the tone can be really expressive and emotional. Good job!

Seems a fitting enough background for the scene you described. I like it.
