There was a recent call for scores put out by the Edinburgh University Brass Band for a new concert march, and I'd been looking for an excuse to write something for brass band for a while. The march genre is one I've had quite a lot of experience in as a performer and so the style came fairly easily to me. I haven't submitted this yet, but I probably will fairly soon.

Sorry, for the late response. I've very rarely come to this forum... YES this is quite lovely.

Ambient music is a genre by itself.. It can sometimes just be 'audio wallpaper', soothing, not really going anywhere. I'd be tempted to add some subtle tidbits to it. I 'think' a hear a cello line there somewhere in the mist. It might be nice if it rose up just a tiny bit, stated something and then backed into the mist again.. Perhaps some slight 'tinkles'. I am not familiar with Hammock. And if it was your intention to work in that vein, well that's another thing. I think it's OK to copy other bands, as an exercise in discovery or your own music. or learn some new techniques, absolutely nothing wrong with that. I appreciate that you tackle different approaches in your uploads. GOOD
  4. This piece speaks to me. I think it is one of your strongest compositions, on several levels. Balance out some levels.. I assume that is rain you bring in at about 1 minute. I've found you only need to introduce and then fade out a sound effect like that, The brain's 'persistence of memory' will take over.. The brain otherwise will quickly re-difine generic rain, as noise, an it starts to detract from piece. You've got some really fine things going on here.. I'd love to hear it longer.. EXCELLENT

What a lovely piece. Lively, energetic, captivating rhythmic changes, smoothly moving harmonic rhythm, superb scoring, translucent / never thick. If I had to describe it non musically I'd say it lets light and air through. Watching the score you've distributed the thematic material very evenly throughout. Most engaging altogether. Wish you all the best with performance. One thing - it's going to keep them on their toes all right! .
