  2. There is obviously a degree of personal self-expression in any composition. Only that music, as enigmatic and disguising as it is, can be understood by a listener in a totally different way. Therefore I couldn't describe a composer's personality out of his music alone. Could anyone, for example, tell how notoriously untidy Beethoven was from his energetic, yet well-structured pieces? Or could anyone tell how shy or insecure Tchaikovsky was, when listening to The Sleeping Beauty? Is the chaotic Rite of Spring an accurate description of the methodic and neat Stravinsky? Does Percy Graigner's obsession with sex show up openly in his music? Knowing these personality traits might (or might not) help to a better understanding of their works - but it's almost impossible the other way around.

  3. Jr, no penalties for now. Until participation gets to the point where it matters. We've had an unprecedentedly large number of competitors for the competitions that were successful, so backing out penalties aren't needed right now. Jr and Js are added.

  4. Lol. Don't worry, Sojar. The judging process is made very easy for you. You will start on July 1st. You'll get a PM telling you what to do. And, thanks!

  6. I confirm my jury partitipation! Please tell me when to start. I would also love to have these works uploaded together on the same page, so I will not be searching them all over the website. Thanks! :)

  7. Awesome! I was also planning on reading through some Shostakovich and a little Beethoven. Both have some good stringy pieces ;)

  8. Totally clueless about strings ? well this is the very basic info You may forget that D string E string lines for now, that's the range for the strings instruments, and how is notated, with those clefs, Contrabass sounds 8va lower of what your write, here you can find more: http://www.garritan.com/RK/rk/1.html I think you can begin with that.

  9. It seems like an outline for a dissertation on Chopin's musical style. I speak Spanish, it's not bad to translate. :) Buen Trabajo! Te aplaudo por trabajar tan arduamente en este proyecto. Pero, muchas personas en esta página web (youngcomposers.com) no hablan español, desafortunadamente. Lo siento, pero no creo que mucha gente la va a leer. (granted, I've been in Italian for MUCH more time than I have studied Spanish, so mine's rusty at BEST. There are probably errors ABOUNDING in just those three sentences. Italian is a lot easier. :P )
