Featured article/profile

Featured Replies

Should these be changed monthly? If so might we use this thread to discuss which article/profile to feature?

Possibly, if you can find suitable replacements. You might also want to check with the owner of the prospective new profile to confirm whether they're comfortable being featured on the front page.

Updated

Is it not superfluous to maintain that the other Mike "runs" Record Hall, given that it's really quite dead? Indeed, it may also be argued that claiming he "runs" YC is just as inaccurate, since we're a team.

I changed that, it also said i was 24, wow. I am 27 now. I wrote all of that way before I even would have figured this site would have done so well, and before all of our help.

Mike, for the record, I made no such "claims". I simply exercised my copy and paste fingers.

Chopin, I extended your entry in the little box by a few sentences just to make it look less empty.

For that matter.... Mike, why don't you have a profile?

Yeah, I know you were just copy and pasting, Hillary.

As for why I don't have a profile: I'm an automated bot, weren't you aware? :P

*cough*

Mike

I salute you. Truly. Also, I love how the flood control countdown is placed among my most memorable contributions. :D Hmm, I could add to that list and receive a pleasant ego boost... :P

That should be the next featured profile, undoubtedly.

The picture of Marvin was a nice touch :)

The flood-control countdown saved my F5 key

What's the article's TTL? Will it be killed?

  • Author

What's TTL mean?

And if it gets killed I'm leaving :D

TTL = Time to Live.

In this case, that concept is entirely redundant. I'm off to link to that page from the YC Staff article.

  • Author

Excellent :)

I was once involved in a conversation about nerdy/geeky/computer related jokes when I made a comment about how short the TTL of a computer joke should be short because 3/4 times it will be lost anyway. I made another ping joke after that but it had 100% loss :pinch:

You could also say that after a while, someone else might come up with a far better response. :D (That's a DNS joke...I think I hit a new low)

my nominations from profiles

[[Profile:Michael A. Garman]]

[[Profile:Kenneth Edward Keyn]]

[[Profile:Tyler Justin Hughes]]

[[Profile:James Householder IV]]

[[Profile:Matthew Becker]]

[[Profile:Inal Bilsel]]

for articles

[[Things to look for while composing]]

[[Euphonium]]

[[basic Sonata Theory: A Dissertation]]

[[Music of the Classical Period]]

[[Piano Practicing Techniques]]

See if you can select from those. Pick your favourite. First ones for both categories to get three votes go on the homepage effective immediately. I won't vote - I picked the nominees. Chop to it.

Of the profiles I'd nominate James's, and for articles 'Basic Sonata Theory'.

That's right, I do still exist! I just have exams :(

*hugs all*

Profile: James

Article: Euphonium

As i mentioned to chopin, you're not going to see much of me in the summer, so that's why i haven't done squat yet. Just so it's out there, i'll actually be back after the summer.

But whatevs i can do some nominations. :smithy:

I don't like any of the suggested article nominees, i'm going to throw in a vote for Rehabilitating Antonio Salieri because i think its entertaining. For profiles.. Your profile is sexy as hell, jeimz, i'll vote for that.

  • 1 month later...

I took the liberty of updating the homepage with a new article and profile, as well as featured threads. It seems nobody else around here has the time. I took Anders' suggestion for the article and profile... even if I do feel a bit narcissistic to put myself on the homepage... don't lie... you like it. It feels ... good. Shut up. But you loooove attention... Tyler, get out of my head. NO! *leaves*

:sigh:

  • 3 weeks later...

*poke* Nobody's here.

I need suggestions for a new profile. I'm thinking of just featuring the [[Performance Network]] as the article, since it needs some publicity to really get going and it could be great if we take care of it.

.... Thoughts?

.... ... .... ... .... .... .... Thoughts?

... ... ... ... ...Thoughts?

... ... ... ... ... ... ... Thoughts?

Hmm, I hear da echoes. :hmmm:

I think that is a great idea. But is it really an article or just a list? A featured article should be something people WANT to read. I was an editor for my school's ("alma mater" now) newspaper. One of my duties was to choose a featured article to put on the newspaper's cover.

I don't really think that is considered an article. For the last issue of "the spartan" (school newspaper) I chose to put the retiring teacher's articles as featured because I know people liked them a lot.

Now, if we choose something people are interested here on this forum, maybe people will read it and decide to write their own article of some sort rather than edit that post.....

Maybe change the title to something interesting?????

In newspapers (which this is not) there should be a verb in the title to make it a better title, which was the section editor's job to create.

the Performance Network....:whistling: Not very well put. People don't know what that is....as for the composition area.....Is currently composing a performance? No!

Although I do not think it is not considered an article, if its the only thing that is well written, I guess.

There is plenty of articles out there in our wiki we just need to find them.

May I suggest putting something on "how to" such as "how to compose", etc.

"Performance Network" is just a list....people don't like looking at list. They like to read something interesting.

It's a site resource, that's why I considered featuring it. But you are right, it's not an ''article'', per se. I'm open for any and all suggestions for both featured articles and profiles now. Speak up, editors.

I'm glad someone else took over it, to be honest

...then agian, you do enough work around here and I do none
