You need to create an account to use with the wiki, Ben. Are you sure you're not trying to log in with your forum account details? And yes, you are allowed to put a link to your personal page in your signatures. And no, I'm afraid MP3s are not permitted to be uploaded because they use too many resources.

thanxs for the info mike!

I figured that we couldn't upload mp3's but just wanted to make sure.

I'm not sure if i have created a wiki acount or not... i created a log in name called "CitizenOfPlanetEarth" to login to the site when i visit....do i need to make a different acount upload files/pictures?... i just went to visit the YC archive and created another acount useing my name, is that what you mean by a wiki acount?... after i was in the archive section i went to the profile page i've been making and tried again to upload a picture with no success... a message popped up that read "cannot copy from ... to ....." the size of the picture is 23 kb and is in jpeg format, is that too big or not the right format?... any help would be appretiated thanx.... Ben

The jpegs should work, but don't worry about this now. In the future it will be much easier to create profiles using our social networking capabilities. I just realized the wiki is really for more advanced users, and the average user here won't be able to operate the wiki and just confuse them.

There is a really stupid reason why the jpeg won't upload, but to be honest with you, I forgot the reason. It might have something to do with the name of the file. Perhaps try naming the file without a space, just dashes?

thanxs chopin!

I fooled around with the name of the file and got it to work! the rest is no problem, i understand how to format text and such with the wiki, i just needed some help with getting the picture up... i'll try to finish my page later tonight if i get some time! thanxs again.. Ben

Hey Chopin, I'd really like to get started on this and get a page up, but I've never used Wiki before and your tutorial really doesn't tell me how to write pages, it just tells me what to do once I've created them. Should I create .TXT files using the guidelines at the bottom of the tutorial and submit them? I will appreciate any help you can give. I'm pretty computer savvy, so if you walk me through the process of creating my main page, I shouldn't have too much trouble. My profile is Jonathan Howie, my real name. I'd like to at least put up a works list and a photo.

Cool picture, Giselle. It seems monochrome is the standard for these YCF profile pics! Jen and I both also have black-and-white photos, though they're "browned" to match the site colors.

But shouldn't your last name at the top be capitalized?

hahaha yeah, I can't figure out how to fix that, as it's not on my edit screen. Do you know how?

Jeezeee Chopin(Mike Porcaro).... can't you manage a little smile for your profile pic? You look like death.

Why are composers so loving SERIOUS all the time?

I just messaged J. Lee Graham to harass him about it sine he's a mod, so maybe he'll be able to help.

[edit: hey, my 600th! can't wait for 666, I'll have to make a very special post... ;) ]

[edit again: ok, J. Lee kindly tried to help but it wouldn't let him fix it either, I'll have to wait to see if Mike can!]

I also can't figure out whether it's still possible to upload photos - my off-site hosting is sort of cruddy..
