Romantic miniature

Here the attach for an old piano piece I wanted to share:

The audio is terrible. I'm often a non-perfectionist pianist, and I just don't feel in the mood just now to record a finer version -and I cannot post any stupid midi file, not for this one. This said;

the piece is what we could call a romantic miniature: G major ternary form (with B section on IVth), small scale (3'30 or so), concentrated and passionate. It was written last summer, in quite an intense emotional moment, and it was felt then as a local achievement for me, a kind of end-of-a-road.

As always, any form of criticism will be truly apreciated:)

It's really good, I would be very pleased about myself if this was mine. Your ideas are great, and you have very nice style. I trully enjoyed listening to this. Keep up the good work, please.

this is actually VERY pretty musically.

my own instinct, however, would be to alter the rhythm a tiny bit at measures 7-8. I'm very tempted when playing it to make those half notes into 1/4 notes, and have them jumping down an octave on the 2nd beat. It woudl give a nice impetus to the left hand at that point.

at measures 19 and 21, would you consider changing the first beat of the left hand to a duplet rhythm? ithe 2-against-3 effect makes that lovely sforzato come out even more.

the first place I have a problem, is at measure 22-23. The progression from the Eb to the 2nd inversion D is rather weak.

at measure 27, the right hand remaining on that D (the F doesn't come in until the next measure) feels a bit weak as well.

Meaure 36 is SO beautiful... that measure 37 is a BIG let down. it's very "ordinary" after the beautiful borrowed harmony of the preceding measures.

This is a wonderful little piece. The first section sounded somewhat soundtrack-ish to me, though in a good way, and while I also liked the second section a lot, I felt it was in a sort of limbo, trying to belong to more than one style at once and not suceeding completely.

The audio quality is upsetting :( :P

QcCowboy - special thanks for the detailed review. The measure 37 problem that you point did in fact worry me for some time when I wrote it, I don't remember if I just liked it in the end or gave up looking for a better solution. Anyways, changing details or not (it's not something I'm to do just now, but neither I discount it on some medium-term future), I take note of them and give them some thought.

Much respect on your music man. This is some very nice work you have done.

i really love when people on this forum compose with a good ability. its always amazing to find little gems here and there. so, it was a treat to hear this piece.
