xanic
This past weekend' date=' I had the good pleasure to experience the world premiere of Nikolas Sideris' work" "Le Hassard t la Necessite" performed by the Octave Chamber Orchestra is Seattle.Nikolas' music was included in an impressive roster of works for string orchestra. The repertoire included: Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and Mozart's Divertimento for Strings. Nikolas' piece complemented stood up well to the classical masters. This is Nikolas' first US world premier and he has had premiere's in London and Athens. Nikolas' music stood out from the other works and was exciting, captivating, and just brilliant. There were a combination of melodies, complex harmonies/dissonances intermingled with harmonics and interplaying with Stravinsky-like rhythms. He seemed to push the stringed instruments to their limit I only wished this impressive piece was longer. The audience was impressed with the piece and during intermission people were raving about it. The Octava Chamber Orchestra did a fantastic job with Nikolas' piece. The orchestra was led by the extraordinary concertmaster Matthew Weiss (who is a member of this forum). The orchestra consisted of 4 first violins, four second violins, 2 violas, 2 celli, one bass and a harpsichord. The level of the musicianship was first-rate as these players perform with the Seattle Symphony and other orchestras in the area. Nikolas is completing his PhD in Music and this work was written last September towards the requirements of the doctoral program. It was a real pleasure to meet Nikolas after knowing him virtually on the forum for several years. Congratulations Nikolas on a successful performance and I am so glad to have attended. I once commented that Nikolas was a national treasure for Greece and this concert proved it. Gary Garritan[/quote'] Great job Nikolas! nikolas
Hey guys! I'm back in London and will be in Athens tomorrow, so a quick note. Yup, everything went well. Hopefully the recording will also be good, in which case I will be able to post it, in a somewhat poor quality mp3 (I'm a purist!) Next big move, if there will be one, will have to wait. The very urgent requirement of me is to finish my PhD, which means a huge amount of work until mid March (and btw, probably a huge reduction in my posts everywhere probably.) And the CD is (not) right not time. It should be out sometime in 200x! :D I haven't forgotten it, just working on editing the reviews, bugging the graphic artist and setting up the Greek tax records. brrr... Thanks all. :) _____________________ I met with Matt Weiss and his wife, both of who are lovely people and Matt is a very talented violonist, as well as a concert master (which can be a very hard work actually). The conductor, Johan was also great and very open to my suggestions on the music. And I also met Gary Garritan and Tom Hopkins (his lead programmer). Both of them are geniouenly nice, great persons to be with and we spend a few hours together, where we talked, discussed various things, including recent sample industry history, etc. They both drove quite a few hours to be in the premier! I thank them! :) (and btw, I wasn't expecting this to reach here! wow! :D Thanks xstatic (probably mispelling of your nickname, sorry). composerorganist
Nick - Oh and a big thank you for looking over my clarinet score - got a live recording of it posted. I know this is off topic in this thread but I figured this would get your attention. I appreciated all your comments final corrections.
