December 6, 200817 yr I have written a fugue for piano!:w00t: This is my first post that is not in the Incomplete Works section (:sadtears:) I don't know if it's much good, or even is entirley right, but this is my first real attempt. Once again: Don't expect anything great because I have been composing for three months and I have been alive for only twelve years (nearly thirteen now- blimey!:O). Anyway, here it is. I wish to thank J. Lee. Graham and his crash course in writing fugues and J.S. Bach for making this fugue possible. Fugue.mid Fugue.mus
December 7, 200817 yr From a quick look-over, it seems you treat 4ths as a consonance on par with 3rds and 6ths, which they're not: they're a dissonance which requires appropriate resolution. You don't resolve leading tones correctly either: watch for that. And those parallel unisons and fourths are despicable :P. Watch for direct motion towards perfect consonances, it's usually a no-no. Remember that contrary motion = the best. I suggest you go over a counterpoint book, maybe even Fux's species counterpoint, to get you on the right track.
December 9, 200817 yr That's really great for a first attempt at a fugue for someone at such a young age. Have you actually learned or performed a fugue before? They are quite tricky, but once you really get to know the piece of music you will understand more how they work harmonically. I liked the way you began with a simple subject, makes life a lot less complicated down the track, although I would have liked to have heard more moving parts against it. Hope this feedback helps, keep up the work!
