January 3, 200917 yr After 3 months of struggling this finally came out. It's also for my operetta, an instrumental of a love scene. I had enormous trouble trying to establish some sort of structure or melodic path through which to go, since this lives only of melody. I am still not completely satisfied with it, but oh well... It doesn't have any "intro" because it's preceded by other things in a scene. mp3 The score is so disgustingly dirty my intestines say they feel repulsed. Score
January 3, 200917 yr Melody. Pretty. Love. Nice. WEEEEE. Now seriously, though not perfect, you did manage to make it flow and make proper use of the recurring theme (which is quite nice in itself). The modulation away from F really did work to my ears (believe it or not) and it doesn't really beg to be longer. I think I stopped it right just shortly of becoming tiresome. Nice job and good luck.
January 4, 200917 yr Wow! This was really good! Your portrayed a love scene very well with the use of the high notes in the violins in a slighty Tchaikovsky manner. I also loved the quirky flute and clarinet parts! You said yourself the score was dirty, so I didn't bother having a look through it to look for "quick-fix" errors, though I did follow along somewhat. I think the ending might be cut off though. Very good work! I love the modulations in this piece! Very effective! The only small change I would suggest is the volume of the flutes at measure 191 (I think), I'd say they're a little too loud for the rest of the orchestra and are kind of shrill... That's just me though.
January 8, 200917 yr This is the first thing of all, I listen to in this forum, and I must say I wasn't disappointed at all! Yeah, as said above, the melody rocks, but maybe this is something like a (no offence) "stupid love". No tragedy in it. I'm trying to say that this piece sounds like a not-too-intelligent house keeper (?) has fallen in love with a noble lady, a hopless love as it is. But! How did you record it? I've been looking for a proper program/technique for ages!!
January 8, 200917 yr Author Finale 2007 + GPO It still sucks, IMO. Since the operetta's a comedy, it kinda works as a "stupid love", although SOME harmonies point intentionally to some sadness.
January 8, 200917 yr I know that some of the shtuff is just a result of your disgustingly dirty score (;)), but I just want to point out the silliness of using triplet dotted-quarters in 6/8, rather than just using 3 quarters. Oh, wait... you changed to 3 quarters near the end of the excerpt. Hrm. One or the other... ;)
January 10, 200917 yr I've listened to this about three times now... and I still can't think of very much to say. But since I promised I would comment, I suppose I'll try anyway. I did like what you did here. There were a few small moments that I found to be a bit corny but overall, I think you created a very nice atmosphere and mood without getting overly sentimental. There were a few silly moments which I enjoyed as well. It'll be nice to hear this when you actually include the vocal line.
January 13, 200917 yr Author Constructiveness isn't a priority for me. I find that pleasure or simply opinions coming from emotions/sensations matter the most.

I am rarely impressed on here but this did it for me. The harmonic textures, the rhythms - all so rich. There's variety and ingenuity and engrossing lilting melodies. I felt like I was in an early to mid 19th century opera house of some sort. Amazing work. How long have you been composing?
