Revised Rules and Code of Conduct

Funny how the Mods here have no trouble "putting rude kids" in their place (often by being rude themselves), yet when somebody comes with a real argument against what they are doing, they become mysteriously silent.

I don't feel safe here, and it doesn't have anything to do with the rude behavior of some 11 year-old. ...I find that what the Mods are doing now is far worse.

Was I being rude?

...also, I don't really see any "real argument" against what we're doing... (what exactly is it we're doing that's so bad anyways?)

Like I said (I was being serious)...if you wouldn't say it to a police officer, don't say it here. Find more articulate ways of voicing your opinions (that's a general statement, certainly not directed at you, Guri).

But, Guri - I am curious - what's not to feel "safe" about?

Robin you know that I would say everything + more to a police officer. At least there I got rights :).

I DO know that...and, while I hope the first thing you say won't be "Sure, Officer...here's my f*cking license, as*hole" I do understand your point, and realize nothing is so cut & dried as to truly "prohibit" anything...

I'd just like to see a bit more restraint and respect around here...perhaps from both the member and modearator sides.

*was going to throw herself on bitter in a fit of lust but restrained herself as Robin suggested*

I know it's hard...but that's a sacrifice we ALL have to make.

Actually speaking about that. A month ago I got a speeding ticket and the first thing I said before he said anything was, "holy f*** S*** that is one dam* nice speed trap. Here's my f*** license and insurance" He had a good laugh. :w00t:

I go off topic when talking with priests all the time!

I think who really appreciates YC and being member of it, will have to stay into the rules. ....we'll see who cares YC and who doesn't....if someone believes that he can do whatever he wants in every place he goes, perhaps that member should leave...

I ask to the members of the staff to keep your eyes wide open in yourselves posts, (not only in the others) being an example of conduct is vital on this, a breaking of the rules by one of staff will become this a big hypocritic disk usage on your server.

and I think this thread has enough pages already.... up into the page I see the phrase "Where Musicians Shares Ideas" I suppose it's refering to "musical" ideas....well, I don't see very much of that on this thread.

Since composing music has nothing to do with ideas other than "musical" ideas, I completely see your point.

....we'll see who cares YC and who doesn't....

As weird as this sounds, whether or not you stay depends on how you define YC.

depends on how you define YC.

Well I think YC is where composers without an unrefutable good fame can share ideas, experiences, show their works, get some assistance and help each other...... or ...am I wrong ?

You're not wrong at all! But you have to realize, that is how you define it. that's what this place is to you. :P

This place changes over time and some of us are still holding on to a rather outdated ideal but outdated or not, that is how we look at YC. If what some members once saw and loved in this place is now gone, how can it be looked at as betrayal. Sure, they love YC but this place just isn't YC to them anymore. Am I making sense?

That makes perfect sense Hillary (to me anyway :P )

If you try to cull the negative side of humanity from the picture, you will inevitably cull the positive as well. Not because of a poorly structured or executed administration, but rather because negative and positive are subjective.

I understand that, but it seems to me that rules are not asking to the members to be saints, only ... behavior themselves, something like

"....ey, there're ladies present !!!..."

..........

and you bob stole my cookie , didn't you read what I said:

I ask to the members of the staff ......... being an example of conduct is vital on this.....

what is it with your signature ?, if you're an Editor why don't you start with Editing your signature.

I don't mean to channel George Carlin (and, to be perfectly honest, I haven't read more than the first and ninth pages of this thread) but when it comes to "profane" words, would it trouble the administration to give us a list? Words that are always profane, words that are sometimes profane, and words some might consider profane but YC does not.

But you see what I mean. No one would bother me if I mentioned that someone was making a perfect donkey out of himself.

However, as Carlin notes, if I said: "LET'S GO GET SOME donkey!!!!!" I'm sure more than a few moderators would let loose a can of moderation.

Similarly, there's nothing wrong about asking the age of the scallop, if we're discussing a new litter of puppies, so long as we don't apply the word to anyone else.

"Hell" is a bit different, though the meaning remains constant; that is, if we're discussing it in an abstract, biblical sense, it certainly would not offend people; it is only when we ask that people go there that we might engender trouble.

I think asking for a list that defines curse words by rank of offensiveness is to go a bit too far. Why should it be this complicated? All the administration needs to ask is "Hey guys, can we tone it down a bit? There be youngins' around, you know." Which, you know, they pretty much have. Why complain? I don't think it's a big deal. Personally I think using potentially offensive words is a bad vice, but so longs as it's not overused I don't think it should be a problem and I don't think the moderating team should make THAT much of a fuss over it.

All these technicalities... the alternative meanings to the word "scallop", or "donkey"... y'all are just trying to weasel your way out of a simple request by the administration. What we don't want are racists hanging around cussing up a storm. Remember vatechjunkie? Yeah, THOSE are the folks we need to protect the forum against. The rest of us won't be a problem. Just tone it down guys, and don't bother complaining. It's not a big deal.

Yeah, but it is. I think that while this isn't necessarily DIFFICULT to do, and we're not actively trying with all of our might not to cuss obscenely, the principal of it all is what upsets us. We can't really be who we are in a sense, I suppose. Plus, I don't think we should lower our standards just for a couple 11-year-olds on the site. Nobody cares, and nobody is offended. This place has more than enough members, if anybody is turned off by the language then I don't really think it's much of a loss. Besides, people like that are ALWAYS super annoying...

I'd just like to point out that I'm 18 (not 11) and I'm offended at ANY curse word regarless of intention.

And yes, I am annoying. ;)

Justin you're so disliked that even mods here barely tolerate you.

Lucky you're not a mod then! :P

How is that a counter to anything? I don't dislike you, I just think you eat to much and that it's stupid you find being in poor health a good thing. But I don't dislike you.

Ironically awesome.

Amended. It was moved to a namespace, a change I've opposed since it was suggested. I created the appropriate redirect.
