Sibelius 6

Anyone taken the plunge and upgraded yet? If so, was it worth it? It looks soOoOo awesome (especially the magnetic layout thing, it seems worth it just for that) but I want some YC opinions!

This looks good! I'm glad I didn't buy 5. The sound library looks like its been improved a bit too... The auto spacing will be a godsend...

Just bought the upgrade today! The new slur control and magnetic spacing obviously are one of those FINALLY updates that should have been added, oh, since the beginning of time.

But that's exactly why we buy it! :D

I've bitten the bullet and ordered the upgrade. I couldn't resist the "magnetic notes" feature. If it works it will save me hours of tedium when preparing a score.

It looks like the update won't arrive for a few weeks, though. I'll let everyone know what I think of it when it arrives.

Umm... my Finale updates are $99. Have been for years.

But this is every year. Sibelius only comes out with a new version every 2-3 years. $130 vs. $200-$300 over the years. Still a better deal.

It is identical to the full version, however, you must prove educational or religious credentials to get the discount price.

So if I buy the academic version via young composers, do I have to show YC store my academic credentials or sibelius folks? Is that via the registration screen or snail mail?

From what I remember from v.3, you must show credentials via snail mail or fax because the Sibelius Co. needs proof your in a school or whatnot. I'd assume that you would have to tell the Sibelius folks, not YC.

Students and faculty alike are eligible for purchase of educational versions. After installation of the product, you will be prompted to provide some information on the type of academic institution you are affiliated with. It is up to you, to provide proper academic credentials upon registration. In the event that you fail to provide the proper information, you will not be able to register the product. By "religious credentials", they are referring to someone who uses the software in the employ of a religious organization, such as a choir master or church organist, who are purchasing the software through their religious organization.

chopin, are there plans to have the Sibelius 6 upgrade available on the YC store? I'd much rather purchase from YC rather than AVID, even if the price is the same.

I'm waiting until it is available at a vastly reduced price.

Sibelius is not allowing resellers to sell upgrades, so we cannot offer this. The closest I can do is offer the crossgrade edition, which, the product page explains what that is and who can qualify for that.

Just my 2cents, I think this is because one must be a confirmed Sibelius owner before purchasing it. So one must provide their original serial number on the Sibelius site (like I did) before you can buy it.
