Woodwind Quintet

Featured Replies

This is a woodwind quintet that I wrote for a friend in Washington. I hope you enjoy it! It doesn't follow any particular format, though one of the main themes comes back quite often.Finale is playing the sound back using the Garritan Personal Orchestra. Finale did a poor job of holding the fermatas or slowing down when it came to a rit., so just imagine it! lol .. Enjoy! :)

I really enjoyed this work. At times some of your ideas got a little tiring - but you managed to move right at the best moments I feel. Any chances of you adding more to this work - movement wise?

I didn't originally plan on it. It is possible, though! Thanks for your comments :)

I really really like the piece.Keep on going

This is interesting work: it's strangely catchy, and it has a wistful, "free" feel to it. And the peaceful interlude at 1:50 is perfect: it's fits like a glove with the piece. I like it! Thanks for sharing! :D

First, it is very accessible aurally as a contemporary ww5tet (compared to, say, Le Chemine) which is a huge boon to you. I really like your harmonies and the flow of the work overall though I will agree with previous comments about some themes becoming repetitious.

As a bassoonist, boo for chronic bass line; I understand the requirement for CP, however I don't like playing something so static, especially with such an energetic piece. It seems everyone else needs to work on their part whereas the bassoon part is sight-readable.

I like it as a stand-alone work though I would be interested to see its potential as a multi-movement piece. Bravo. Jon

I really liked it. Seemed to end a bit prematurely though.

All the themes are very catchy. The work has this kind of forward drive to it that keeps everything going and holds our interest. I was quite fond of this one. Good work!

I love it. I love the theme, I love the slow section that follows the livelier beginning. I wish there was a little bit more experimentation. That would be really great and would really make this piece a winner in my opinion. At times, the piece sounds more like a movie soundtrack, which is fine, if that is what you were going for it. It has better moments at some parts then others. For instance, I love what you do at the end of the piece, but, on that same note, I think you could have easily expanded that ending section would have complemented the beginning very well. Also, the slower section could be a bit longer, and, on that note, could have had a ton of experimentation, with maybe timbre or pitch content.

Great piece!
