Hi all

I am a composer for a few years now. I am 32 from Ireland. I have had about 15 performances and some recordings too as well as studying it at uni. I just recently came back to composing after about 4 years of silence. I didn't know where to go ! Now I know and feel I have reached a kind of maturity or I am on the brink of it :P

First I wrote neo-classical kinda stuff - cos the classical greats were what I loved.

Then I discovered minimalism and sounded a bit like a sinning version of Arvo Part.

I also tried other stuff, particularly always interested in Asian music traditions which means my music has a modal folky flavour sometimes. I like irregular meter too. A bit like Messiaen's monophonic stuff. His dancy movements.

I listened then to Feldman and loved how paired down everything was.

All through my music too is a love of jazz. Not so much rhythmically as harmonically. I use chords and arrangements that are a bit like Bill Evans at times, for example.

So now I find myself doing 2 things - writing electro pop, kind of lounge/ambient stuff AND writing contemporary classical, although I don't love that title.

I want to have an audience of a certain kind, I think. Don't wanna write music that is esoteric, me with a big ego and lots of maths in the music. I have met so many composers into being as original as possible. No, I want something more personal to me. Something emotionally, even spiritually (not religiously!) connected.

So after having lost my copy of Sibelius :ermm: I am combining the recording music (I have a basic studio set-up) with the classical and attempting to use an electric piano to create a piece for organ, piano and vibraphone. The piano is very good and has overdub as well as my 4 track system. So I can play all the parts myself. This will be a big work I hope. Simultaneously I will record songs using the same keyboard overdubbed and my voice.

We see how it goes. If you have a facebook account? my music is ... HERE

come and listen :)

thanks for reading

I will post music here soon too ;)

Jaime.

Could you please post a link for your music somewhere else than facebook? I can't join (age) and would like to hear some of your music

Sure Heckel. I will get on to it now. I will put some examples on my profile.

Thanks

J

Well its good to hear you are composing again after that brief silence. I would say if you are interested in the style of Arvo Part look into Gorecki's Post symphony no. 3 music because its a similar sort of sound which is just beautiful and hypnotising.
