Hm, it's a little late, but nonetheless,

Hi YC. I'm a bassoonist from Missouri. I just recently began writing my first orchestral works, one movement of which is almost done. I'm a devotee of any music Russian in nature, especially Nationalism. Prokofiev is my favorite composer, and being a bassoonist, I'm entitled to be insane.

There is a different from playing it and playing it well. If it is fun, you're playing it wrong.

Now I know why your called 'Bitter'

(I bet when you play you make everyone in the audience angry jk)

No, filthy Apostles or w/e. :) (but I won't expand on this since it's not the FFA)

Alas, the sleep of reason produces monsters.

So music should be serious? Dude you need to listen to Victor Borge, he might change your mind

You assume one man would change more than a decade of training? Besides I already know who he is. An annoying guy.

Meta, you spent years learning a caprice? You wasted a lot of time. You should have became better with other pieces then move on. It shouldn't take you that long. Anyway, the reason i'm a jerk on this issue is because the caprices are cheap. People play them because they are famous and if they ever need to pretend that they have talent they play the piece. However, they play them with a lot of mistakes. All they ever do is work on the speeed but mess up the timing. It becomes so worthless. I can imagine you do the same thing. The caprices are art.

I learned what I know of the 24th caprice just by playing it slow I would never try to take something like that head on and at full speed, and I only spent a few days memorizing the sheet music, I just played it every now and then during my practice hours and it steadily got better.

but I do know what you mean by people just wanting to play them because they're associated with virtuosity.

By the way, can YOU even play the caprices? (They are fun to play, just hard to learn, and not everybody is like you)

I perfected the pieces last year around this time. I think it should be somewhere in the "what piece are you currently learning" section.

You're right not everyone is like me. They lack the talent.

If somebody doesn't have your talent then fine! It still doesn't give you the right to lord your knowledge over everybody else, and I tell ya what, if you keep that up, someones gonna come along and push your big foot down your throat!

I am no longer going to comment on this

You take me far too seriously. I've already had my foot shoved down my throat by a few people, all of whom are far better people than I will ever be.

Alas, the sleep of reason produces monsters.

EDIT: People with common sense. :w00t:

I have only been playing 3 years it took me 2 years to perfect it.

I became better with ALOT of pieces, The caprices are amazing.. Not cheap, I learned it because I liked it, but I perfected it because I loved it. You can imagine I do the same thing? You've never heard me play, yet you throw out a judment on my playing ability?

You so crazy. :w00t:

anyway thankyou for your comments :w00t: ... even if they are irritating. ;)

Hello, I am IntellEJent, not to be confused with intelligent. I am often called Intell (with two L's, not one like the hardware company). I am 11 years old. I really only qualify for half of the title of this forum, as I am young, but not really a composer. I have composed several variations of normal melodies (such as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star), but not composed anything completely of my own. Haven't really ever been to any other forums, besides computer related ones, as that's my main hobby: programming. Just wanted to check this forum out.

One thing I forgot to mention. I know another forum called YC too!

Well then, welcome little one :P It's nice to have you and i hope you can learn something from the many characters here.

By the way, do you speak french?

Yes welcome to forums! :P

No, I don't speak Francais.

Interesting forum, to say the least. Haven't seen IPB being used in a long time! I prefer vBulletin by a large measure.

Actually, you'll probably be quite at home here, Iwenn. There are lots of members on this site who are aged 20 or over - in fact, the majority of our moderators are aged 20 or over. I hope YC can help you with all of your aspirations!

Thanks Mike :P

I'm still trying to settle down cos' I do not know much of historical and modern Western music and there's so much to read on  :)

Hello all, i'm totally new to this forum, I signed up about 10 minutes ago :w00t:

I'm Keith Novak, I live in the middle of nowhere (I must admit I actually do prefer it to the city), and I haven't really been interested in composing very long. My musical spark really took off in the 7th grade. I've been a drummer since I was 5, but I only started learning basic music theory (key signatures, how to actually read treble+bass clef) at the end of 9th grade (1 year ago). So I'm very new to composing stuff, but I still do it for fun... I haven't finished any full works (I get frustrated with them and delete them from my computer, or if I'm doing it by hand I throw them away), but I know soon I'll find my muse and some time to actually make a finished work.

:w00t: Were you on Montel? I remeber seeing a kid on their with the exact same story

(if you haven't my mistake) lol

Hello!

But that's great....except...don't delete stuff until you backed it up! You never know when you might want to go back and expand or re-use something. Look forward to hearing, when you're ready.

EDIT: People with common sense. :w00t:

Unfortunately, "common sense" alone has not taken alot of people very far.
