Welcome, three new members

I'm an old man new to everything.

Talk to Rolifer, although I don't consider 51 (his age...I think) THAT old

WELCOME ALL WHO HAVE JOINED OVER THE PAST... YEAR (or so since I posted last in this thread... lolz)

Welcome to the people since I last posted. Have fun!

:yc:

Hey, I'm gosp.

I play pretty much all your band instruments, as well as a few stringed ones, but in the end, I'm only good on the Sax, Piano, Guitar, and Harmonica. While I compose frequently, my main vice is that I don't finish my pieces... Maybe 2 have ever left FLStudio

Usually I'll arrange pieces from other composers. I finish those pretty quickly.

Other than that I speak a lot of languages.

Sorry about the extra a. I have corrected the post, and now feel like a truly horrible English major.

Hi, nice to meet everyone. My name is Angelina. I have never had any formal training in composition, but love to experiment with music and learn from others. I have always had a good ear, but need improvement with reading and notating. I'm a little bit of a late bloomer (I'm 27), as I just recently discovered musical abilities I never knew I had.

When I graduated from high school, I wanted to major in music. But, I had many people tell me that I lacked enough formal training to survive music theory, so I listened to them and majored in art instead. After taking a break from school, I resumed classes at Eastern Oregon University, and again studied art. However, to put doubts to rest, I decided to minor in music.

I discovered I could in fact read music well enough to ace all of my classes, including theory and aural skills classes. Since I had no formal training in anything other than piano (which I am very average and still can't read more than two lines at once), I decided to take voice lessons. I found my operatic voice, and discovered I was a dramatic soprano. The irony is that I was never a fan of opera! From this whole experience, however, I am trying to become better versed in repertoire and general musical terminology.

I am here because I have since had the confidence to major in music, and will be taking second year theory at a community college (as well as pursuing a certificate in Music Technology/sound engineering) and I feel it would be educational to be involved with this community. My compositions are primarily electronic, mostly resembling video game music in various styles. But, eventually (when I can find some decent recording equipment) I will submit some piano compositions.

Thanks for reading this book, and I'm looking forward to meeting new people and having fun discussing music!

Hey, welcome Angelina! You may call me Graham or Heckel or Heckelphone or Heckelphone99 or Heckel99. :)

Welcome Boys/Girl ...

Hey, just curiosity ....

why many new members don't change the "Starving Musician" for something else .... ? ... I've seen it many times .....

...Maybe they think it will be automatically changed with the time ? that you have to "earn" something more ? ....

Perhaps there are more "humble" people here than I thought :D

Hi

lol Graham... I think half of your posts are in this thread :)

Welcome to all!

Welcome to :yc: where musicians share ideas! :D

Hi. I'm Mike (but stick with Recantha as there seem to be a LOT of Mikes here!).

I'm 32 and have been a performer (singer) for 20 years, all amateur and pro-am but I can but hope! ;-) I've conducted a few amateur performances with small band and singers and also direct amateur theatre.

I've just recently begun writing my own songs and music, with little success so far, but I'm working on it! I'm slightly hamstrung by not being able to play a musical instrument, even though I can read music okay. I'm finding my way, using Finale to compose (just can't get on with Sibelius!) and my main influences are Sondheim, Scott Alan and also orchestral film scores.

I'm looking forward to contributing and to listening to posted compositions :-)

La la la la laaa!!!!! Welcome to youngcomposers!!!!

Hey composers,

Just joined... I live in the Netherlands and I just got on this forum to learn from you experienced composers. I don't compose yet... I'm planning to, though. I play piano/keyboards (not classical, little bit jazzy/gospel/soulful... but im just a beginner to intermediate level). More of a play-by-ear person :P. But yeah... I can read/write. I just can't read fluently and play :(. I love the idea of composing for orchestras, but I'll need you guys to learn what is still left to learn for me...

The most "Off-Topicinian" member is Hillary ....

I have posted in everywhere but "competitions", and in every single Electronic thread.

I invite all new members (and those who haven't done yet) to post your location in the map:

I'd like to have a better idea of how many members are where.

mmmm... no.

My location will be a mystery if it kills me.

(and I do not extend a welcome. It is Tuesday.)

ok, maintain you "mysterousty"

but why the Tuesday thing ?

i don't follow that

(and if someone with a little more of "common knowledge" about computers can easily find you .... if not your house your city/town .... (because tracing after your Internet supplier is more difficult) ... tracing your exact possition is a job for a hacker ... )

Tracing is not ilegal

hi guys...

i'm Chirag from India..

i'm so happy to have found this site....

i have been learning about music by myself since 10 years...

so far i have found information and learned what i could on the internet...so my progress has been slow..i listen to alot of classical music...almost all the time...i try to compose but i find it hard to translate my ideas from my head onto paper or rather my computer...i mostly work with midi...what i put out is not as great as what i hear in my head...when i try to commit to putting it down, something happens and i end up trying too hard... ..lol...i am familiar with reading sheet music but i am rather slow...over the years my love for music and composition has grown and i have not allowed my limitations to stop me from moving ahead...

my musical ideas and the melodies i hear in my head have also improved and matured over the years....i am very keen on learning more and being able to express my ideas fluently...i love JS Bach...counterpoint fascinates me....i also love other composers...

anyway...i am happy to join this site and hopefully i can learn lots from all of you...looking forward to starting soon....

:)
