I think what Omar does is something like those automatic welcome mails you receive when you sing up in some Artits Fan website ....

"Thanks for joining my site, you're welcome.

Hugs.

Nicole Kidman"

yeah sure ......:veryunsure:

I think that is why most of us are annoyed by it...

Well, yes and is because we're already here, .... but for new members ..... well they have to receive some kind of answer don't you think ? at least "hey welcome" ....

Maybe the annoying thing is seeing that phrase always posted by the same person.

The annoying thing is that the same thing is posted but the same two people over and over and over again. They could at least put some more effort. It is some serious CTRL+C and CTRL+V:ing here.

Great site! Seems like many talented, knowledgeable people come here.

My name is Paul and I'm a guitarist. I love improvisation and play jazz and instrumental rock. Performing and teaching have kept me busy for years but the last couple has been spent home recording. I've been in bands ranging from top forty, blues, reggae, calypso, rock and occasional jazz.

Harmony on the guitar has always been an obsession of mine...as much as single note improvisation. Voice leading and moving independent lines is quite challenging. George Van Epps, Lenny Breau, Ted Greene, Ed Bickert were masters at this. I spent a whole year studying classical guitar Bach, Sor etc. Segovia once said "The guitar to me is like looking at a full orchestra though the wrong end of the binoculars."

I comment to my wife frequently how "I should have stuck with the piano as a kid"... lol, such is my striving for harmonic freedom on the instrument.

It dawns on me how composing will free up any physical limitations of an instrument. I've always written for the contemporary bass/drums rhythm section...the scope and breadth provided to an orchestrator of many instruments finally hits home! I finally realized that composing is not beyond me. I've been transcribing jazz lines for years, I know harmony, have a good ear...I have the tools. Composing just always seemed daunting to me.

So here I am ready to dive in here lurk around a bit, ask some dumb questions and pick up some things. I just started some online lessons with a composer. Counterpoint, song forms, theory etc. Can't wait to one day post some music.

:D

Hi,

I'm not really new but figured I'd post something here after being around a few months. YC has been great to get feedback and ideas for compositions. I want to say thanks for those you have.

Being an artist is tough, you throw things out there and cross your fingers.

The best thing to do is post your music and listen to others.

I got a Bachelor's in Fine Arts (piano performance) 20 years ago and thought about composing. My ear training was terrible so I thought I was doomed and gave up. For the past two years, I've been giving a lot of piano lessons, became a music director at church, and did a semester as a substitute band director at a high school. These experiences has mad my "ear" better. Over the summer I had nothing to do and really cranked up composing whatever I could after finding this website. 5 compositions to date but they are only the first 5.

Hey. I'm Jordan. I've been attending the University of Central Arkansas for the past three years studying composition, but I've recently dropped out and am now working on my portfolio and plan on applying to the School of the Art Institute of Chicago at the beginning of next year. Definitely a non-traditional composer, but I enjoy pretty much all music.

I'm a composer/instrumentalist residing in Brooklyn. I found this site while seeking clarity on traditional classical forms for a new piece, at least as reference. I found the info and postings to be initially thoughtful, musically, and decided to join. Viva la musica !!!!.....t-1

Wow that's a big decision if you are seriously going to be a musician.

I think for the music theory you wouldn't have problems I took 3 classes the first year.

Y-er...I have a Bachelor's degree in Music. I was talking about actually studying with a composer...for my Master's.

The links don't work.

Links to sources outside YC do not work in signatures. You will have to type out the whole URL in your signature and it would still require anyone that wanted to look at it to copy-paste.

Hello all. My name is Joshua, and I hail from Texas in the US. I am 18 years of age, almost 19, and am currently a freshman composition major at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX.

I started composing music in about 7th grade when I bought Cakewalk 2003 on a mere whim. I had always loved music, both my mother and father being musicians (not professional, but they played in high school and college), and I started playing clarinet in 6th grade. Before then I still had an affinity for 'classical' music and stuff like movie scores and video game soundtracks, and so one of the first things I did with my new program was notate some pieces that I knew from various other mediums, just to challenge my dictation skills, and for my personal enjoyment. Eventually I got to the point where I had much more fun creating my own music, and things just kind of expanded from that.

As of now, I have yet to be published, but I have had two concert band pieces performed for the public, both just this past year (my senior year in high school). So far, I've written mostly band and orchestra works, with some solo piano pieces, but I hope to expand my repertoire with ensembles of all kinds. I look forward to being in touch with other young, contemporary composers and sharing ideas, along with critiquing each other's works.

Do you know Tyler? "Plutokat" or something close to that. He goes to your school. :D
